I'm currently 5 weeks pregnant and hoping to have a vbac with this one. I moved to CT after having ds so I don't have a doctor here. I worry that I'll get someone that says they'll do a vbac throughout the pregnancy and not follow through at the end.
So anyone have any names or suggestions?
I don't have any specific names so I'm interested to see other replies, but in the limited research I've done (not currently pregnant but definitely planning a VBAC for future pregnancy) I've found that Manchester Hospital has the best VBAC rate in the state. I delivered my daughter at Middlesex and my current practice does not allow VBACs and I've been told only one doctor at Middlesex will do it, so I will be switching practices/hospitals when the time comes.
If you haven't checked out the ICAN network, the CT chapter has some good information and the women on the listserv are vey helpful and supportive. Good Luck!
My friend had a VBAC 4 years ago at L&M hospital in New London with Shoreline OBGYN....not sure if they still will do them now or not.
I see Dr. Byrd in Middletown (Harbor Park OBGYN) but I am not sure if she does VBACS??
Dr. Byrd is the one doc at Middlesex who supposedly supports VBAC but the one story I have heard was NOT POSITIVE.
Another option is the Woodland midwives at St. Francis. I have heard good things about them as a practice, although like most of our hospitals St. F's does not have a high VBAC rate.
I don't know about VBACs but I once went to Dr. Byrd to discuss birth control and didn't have a good experience with her, she wasn't that friendly, I just didn't get the warm fuzzies. She was very condescending.
I do know that Manchester Memorial hospital is great, I'm not sure what their VBAC policy is but my sister gave birth there and loved it, it was a very nice facility and atmosphere. Nice rooms.
If I were going to have another child, I would check out Manchester Obstetrics & Gyn - they have an office here in Tolland- where I live- and they have great Doctors and midwives from what I have heard.
their phone number is: (860) 872-3535 - they may have other offices as well, not sure if they moved completely to Tolland, or if they just branched out.
I would stay FAR away from St. Francis hospital in Hartford- I have heard that they are not a place that supports any natural child birthing at all.
If you want a great chiro for pregnancy, My rec would be Dr. Jennifer Veit in Willington- she is awesome! She can give you great info on midwives and other dr's if you need. http://chiro-jenn.com/
For a doula- I used Shannon Kent for my last two deliveries. LOVE her! She is in Ellington, and you can find her listed as "the Blessed Event" She can also give you some Dr. and hospital recommendations. Give her a call or check out her website: http://www.getadoula.com/
ETA- there are 4 pictures on the doula web page of my last birth- starting at pic # 16. :) And yes, that last pic is my son breastfeeding, and my boob. :D
