Hi,

So we are new to Rhode Island and we are expecting at the end of May 2013. I am hoping to find a pediatrician who is flexable and is okay if we decide not to vaccinate or delay it.

I dont want someone who is going to bully, or criticize our decision. Can anyone recommend a good pediatrician?

btw, we live in the bay area.

thanks!!

I go to Dr. Griffith at Pediatric Associates in East Providence. We follow a selective & delayed schedule and he's never chastised me or bullied me about our decisions in any way. If your looking for a "crunchy" homeopathic type pediatrician then he's not really a good choice but he is definitely open to flexible vax schedules. (At least in my experience). We are also an extended bf'ing, vegan family and he's been supportive of all of that as well.

If you would like a more holistic option then be sure to look into Dr. McGonigle at Ocean State Holistic Medical Collaborative in Providence, RI. He is definitely supportive of non/delayed vaccination and is highly recommended by many on this site :)

Hi,

thanks for the info! I called McGongile and his office isn't accepting new patients :( but Dr. Griffith is available. I also hear about a Dr. Farb, and she is also available. The only downside is that neither of them do consults or a meet, basically in order to see them you have to make them your pediatrician and the first time I would see them would be after giving birth, which is a big decision in choosing someone to be your child's dr without meeting them first.

I think I will end up going with one of these two doctors, I guess I can always switch if I end up not liking the first one.

If you dont mind me asking, what kind of delayed/selective schedule do you have your child on?

Thanks again!

If you don't mind heading to MA, there is a great family practice doctor there who is extremely supportive of delayed/no vax. She's quite popular and beloved.

We recently switched pediatrician's for this reason. We were seeing Dr Griffith (someone mentioned him above), however he gave us a hard time about not vaxxing at every appointment despite the fact that in our first meeting when my son (now 3) was a newborn when he said he would give us his full support. He even made a spectacle and argued with me in front of a student doctor he had in his office for observation once. Last fall his office made an announcement that they will no longer accept new patients who choose not to vaccinate, so be aware of that if you try getting in there.

I was recently recommended to see Dr Tanya Becker in Pawtucket- we just switched and she is fabulous! She is the only doctor there, not a group. Her business card even has her personal cell phone number for emergencies after hours. She spent 45 minutes getting to know us and our son, was very respectful and knowledgable and not pushy whatsoever,

We are in the process of switching pedis as both of ours have left the practice in the 5 yrs we've been there. Dr Griffith is always one of the top docs I hear about and I am in the process of switching to him. However, since finding about my sons numerous serious food allergies, we really slowed down his vaccines and my daughter. 2.5 has only had 1 dtap and hib. Do you think I'm making the wrong choice switching to him? Only after dealing with my sons issues and actually delving into vaccine ingredients have I started to question many of them - I am nervous that you said his office will no longer allow selective vaccination?
