I'm pregnant with our 2nd child and I'd like to find a midwife group in the central NH/lakes region area. I was with the Dartmouth-Hitchock group in Manchester with our first and I loved them, but that's a little further than I'd like to drive now. I know that, 2 years ago, the DH midwives in Concord were only on-call during the day, so there wasn't a guarantee of having a midwife at your birth - and that's why I transferred to Manchester. I do not want an OB attending my child's birth. So, does anyone have any recommendations for me? I will be checking out Jeanne Brown (sp) in Concord...anyone else?

Natanya Champney out of Littleton, NH. Not sure if that is too far for you.

I think it might be, but I'm not sure...I'll have to look.

I forgot to mention in my OP that I'm not interested in a home birth, so I'm looking for a midwife that either has a birth center or works with a local hospital.

What do you consider Central NH? Sad, I grew up in NH but I'm not sure what the Central part would be. Do you mean near concord and heading northing towards the Lakes Region?

I love Natanya! She delivered my last baby. Not sure if she does anything besides homebirths though, but worth checking into since she is the best.

If you're looking for a midwife with a birthing center, as far as I'm aware the only one in central NH (Concord/Lakes Region) is Jeanne Browne at Concord Birth and Wellness Center. You're correct about the midwives at DH in Concord - they are only on-call during the day on weekdays.

Jeanne is wonderful!! She caught 2 of ours at her birth center. Couldn't have asked for a better experience, either time.

Another option in the Concord area is Carol Leonard at the Longmeadow Farm Birth Center in Hopkington:

I can't quite picture where you are, so just in case, here's a birth center in Keene, NH.
Mary and Annique attended my son's homebirth, and I them!

Carol isn't practicing anymore, as far as I'm aware. She retired a few years ago; there was a story in the local paper and everything. I'm not sure why she's still on the NH midwives page ... lol!

Just wanted to have an official post up advocating for Alice Peck Day Hospital in Lebanon, NH. I had a VBAC there in 2008 and the midwives were fabulous.  Felt a lot more open-minded than what I heard about Dartmouth Hitchcock (DHMC).
