More specifically, did you cross off the part about your child increasing the risk of others contracting those diseases? Or what did you do, just sign it?

Thanks!

I just wrote a letter saying we didn't do certain vaccines and that i understood they would have to be kept home atleast two weeks in event of an outbreak. there was an outbreak of chicken pox and he was home 2 weeks.

I did fill it out, but I didn't agree with the wording so I crossed out (with pen) what I didn't agree with and wrote things in the side bar. I don't sign anything unless I agree with the full contents of the document.

I wasn't aware that you were allowed to cross things out! that is really interesting and good to know. my 6 year has had her vaccines when she was a baby, but after doing more research I have decided not to give her anymore and her school is bothering me because I haven't gotten her 5 year shots, I just had my second child 6 days ago, and want to have them both exempt from vaccines. I think I will fill one out for philosophical and religious purposes just to get my point across! happy to know I can cross out the parts I disagree with. man I love living in Vermont :)

To be honest, I never inquired to if it was ok or not. I just know that we had to fill out and exemption in order to enroll my child, and I didn't agree with the full contents of the document. I don't  believe you should ever sign anything unless you agree to every word.

I know from our school nurse that different nurses react differently in different towns.  Last year, at least, the Health Department was looking for feedback about what people were signing or crossing out.  Now, I don't know.

I just inserted a little caret in the statement adding "the health department states that" so it became, "I understand that **the health department states that** unvaccinated children are a risk..."  or whatever that language is.

My sense is that most school nurses just need to have the paperwork, though the odd one might give you a hard time.
