Hey ladies,
I am moving to the Quad Cities area in about 4 weeks and I will be 30 wks preggers with #5! I am a birth doula here and I have taken a portion of my midwifery training here. I am looking for a midwife- a good family practice doc for the kids, a chiro, a naturalpath, and oh yeah a health food store!!!! I am moving from Sioux Falls, SD where i have lived for my whole life, so the people I use now are wonderful and took forever to find: I also homeschool my 2 older kiddos and am looking forward to coming to the area, I need to get to know some people first though as I am leaving behind a great group of women who have been present at my births, my toughest moments, and my happiest as well. I am slightly sad but excited about this newest adventure!!! Let me know if anyone has info for me about alternatives in the area. Or even a good play date for alternative mamas

Join Friends of Iowa Midwives and ask there! I know of 2 midwives serving QC.

Lauren (33), writer, recovering academic, WOHM to a highly sensitive child (Robin, Feb '08) and mellow little Holly (Jan '10). Newly diagnosed Bipolar I. rolleyes.gif

There is a good health food store in Davenport Greatest Grains. Another one I have used in the past is Heritage Foods. They opened a small store in Davenport on Elmore I think and the larger store was over in Moline. There are others to check out to find the needs of your family.
Good luck on your move!

When we lived in Davenport, we used Drs. Jason and Rochelle Davis for our medical needs (they're both DOs). They are on Marquette just off of Kimberly.

Chiro care - you have a lot of choice. Palmer is there and it seems like you can't throw a rock without hitting a chiro office. I see Dr. Larkin in the Palmer main clinic (a student adjusts me, she supervises - she was my doc when I was in clinic). Other docs in the area practice a wide variety of techniques - depends on what you like.

I'd recommend sending a PM to roomformore - she lives there and is homeschooling her kids (her oldest are about a year younger than your oldest). She'll be able to hook you up with a play-group, etc.

Best wishes for a minimally stressful move.

My family: me jog.gif, dh geek.gif, ds reading.gif (11), dd1 hearts.gif (9), and dd2 energy.gif(3).

Tout va s'arranger à la fin. Si elle ne fonctionne pas; ce n'est pas la fin.

Hello!

I live in the Qc with my husband and 2 daughters. I was working as a homebirth assistant but the Midwife gave up her practice. There are two other midwives doing HBs in the Area- I'll see if I can round up there #'s (assuming you are wanting a homebirth). Kathleen Rubeleke is a wonderful chiro, she is in Moline. She is also certified pediatrics. I used her during my last pregnancy and i have taken my children also- we just love her. I dont really have any suggestions as far as family Dr's go- I'm still looking for one that supports vax choices.

For health food stores, I second greatest grains. and I would love to get together for a playdate, or a mama date

we also have a variety of HSing groups in the area. The largest being Christian but there is a secular group on yahoo.

I second Dmitrizmom's recommendation of Rochelle Davis, DO (I have never been to see her dp). Rochelle didn't even blink when I told her we had not vax'ed our dd.

The QC secular group meets on Wednesdays. When the weather is nice we meet at the park and in the winter we meet at two different churches that have gyms for the children to run around in. Most of the time the children play while the moms talk and knit.
