There are plenty of us around....St Louis is actually pretty open and liberal, the county just tends to have conservative pockets.

There is a playgroup that is an offshoot of the local API chapter. NOt all are politically liberal, but all are very open minded etc

I think St. Louis actually overall leans slightly to the left honestly. Perhaps you live in a more conservative area? I am out west and I know it's more conservative out here than in other areas, but not suffocatingly so. Although, to be fair, I moved back from Springfield MO, so my perspective on what makes a place conservative is definitely different. Springfield is uber conservative.

dh calls nbc here the catholic channel. There are a lot of catholics in st louis and when I was growing up the majority of catholics I knew were progressive, liberal, etc. Then the pope sent in a exceedingly conservative archbishop....IMO to try to move the area to the right and in some cases it seems to have worked.

I think all the tv media here (except PBS) is slanted to the right. The "money" areas and companies tend to be right so they follow suit I guess. St. Louis is blue though every election (the city anways).

I agree completely greenmagick, couldn't have said it better! There are a ton of liberal folks, the closer you get to the city, the more you will find! Should we set up another meetup of STL moms soon?

I used to watch the channel 5 news at 10 and frankly had to stop because they seemed to lead with dead or injured child stories an awful lot. This was rarely real news. I'm not sure if that indicated a politcal bias but it was very annoying. I used to be such a newshound.

A meet up would be wonderful.

I agree what with others have said - there are certainly parts of St. Louis (especially the farther out west in the county you get) that are pretty conservative, and our news/newspaper are very slanted to the right, but overall the city is pretty open-minded and progressive.

There are definitely more lefties in the city. Both the educated, middle class types and the doesn't-vote-against-their-economic-interests types.

I'm about as left as they come. We are around. I would love another MDC meetup!

We have a move date! so plan one for after Oct 2 okay?

How are the LLL groups? I haven't been active in the one up here (Peoria) 'cause my hospital (Baby Friendly) has a super awesome IBCLC led group that meets, and it's much closer to where I live. But I was surprised to find more than one group that met pretty close to where we're going to be living (south county). Okay, maybe part of that surprise will be re-acclimating to being in an actual metro area.

The first month we're there DH will still be working his OOT schedule (gone mon-thurs, maybe fridays too) so I will **need** connection. We've got our family pass to Magic House already, I'll be happy to meet up there at pretty much any notice.

(gee could I come across any more desperate? lol)

I would love to do a meetup. I can't seem to get to any already established meetups because they are during the day and I watch a couple kids M-F so I can stay home with my daughter. I ride the bus and getting all three kids to a bus is not fun and it is hard to relax and enjoy a play date when I have all three of them so it is not really worth the stress.

If there were only a few of us we could probably meet at Hartford Coffee. They have a kids play area but they expect you to buy coffee and I am pretty sure then no one can bring outside snacks. I have been trying to come up with an ideal meeting place, too. I live near hampton and chippewa and the only inside place close to me is the Buder library. They have a great room on the children's floor that is almost never used but they said we can't use it. boo.

My apartment is ridiculously tiny, too. Any more than two moms in here and we'd be like sardines.

I am going to call Buder again next week when the lady in charge of the kids area is there. I would not want to do it in the regular area because there might not be enough room and nowhere for us moms to sit except on the floor and no food. But that room would be perfect if they would allow us to use it. No idea why they said no. She said "we get requests for that room a lot and we usually just say no."

Hartford is a great place if we can't find anywhere else in the meantime. I could host once if there were only a few mommas but I am not gonna lie about the tiny, tiny space here. We have bajillions of toys though. I would have to host sometime in November though because my daughter's birthday is coming up and I am busy as all get out this month fixing up my house.

As long as the weather is nice, what about a meetup at Tower Grove or another park?

I am just over the county line in Affton, but used to live at christy and gravois

By the time I could get there on a weekday it would be dark. Saturday and Sunday afternoons work though.

If it has to be a weekday I might be able to get all the kids there on the bus.

Is there another park within walking distance that would work for a weekday thing in the city? Tilles? Francis? Is there any interest in a Saturday or Sunday meetup? I know this time of year can be busy for a lot of people.

Tower Grove would be great, I was there weekend before last playing ball with my son and daughter. They have those little pavillions. I don't think at this time of year that they would be in great demand.
Alacrity- I am planning a b-day for my Nov 5th daughter. We are doing a Halloween thing, so I am right there with you on that one.
My schedule is very flexible, anytime pretty much I can be there. My children are a bit older, probably. Daughter will be 15 and my youngest son is 9. Oldest son will be 17 in January, he won't be there...lol. But the two youngest probably would love to meet some new people. Anyone with kids this age?

I can do tower grove. It is easier on weekends because I won't have the kids I babysit and life is always easier with only one kid instead of three toddlers. :P I love Tower Grove park though.

D is only going to be one. So we're having a pajama party. Not too much planning but I am spending the next few weeks decluttering my home. It is bad.

I can't imagine my daughter as a teenager. I am a little terrified of the teen years.
