Hi there,

We need to get my son to an Ear, Nose & Throat doc within the next 1-2 weeks.  Any recommendations?  Our son's audiologist (he has hearing loss) recommended one who we really didn't like so... we're in the market again!

Please let me know!

Kathy

Hi Kathy,

My 2.5-year-old daughter also has hearing loss. We've been seeing Mark Gerber at Northshore in Evanston and we like him a lot. A lot of families I know see Dr. Young at Childrens but I personally did not care for her. Good luck!

Thanks, Christine!  We actually did end up at North Shore (today, as a matter of fact), but Dr. Gerber wasn't going to be able to fit us in for another few weeks!  As such, we saw an ENT who I think generally works with older patients--nevertheless, the visit was totally pleasant and 100% different from our first visit with Young.

It's interesting that you weren't all that impressed with Dr. Young either... At that first visit, I was really turned off by her bedside manner as well as her insistence on talking at length about cochlear implants! Maybe in certain instances, this would have been appropriate, but my son's hearing loss is only moderate and his language development has been right on target, so it just seemed... odd (we were there just to get medical clearance for the hearing aids).  I guess that's just the way it goes with specialists sometimes?

Anyhow, I'm very glad to know that we know where to go next time!  Thanks for the recommendation! Dr. Gerber's Evanston location is literally minutes from my office, so it's convenient too!

About a year ago we saw Sue Kim at her Chicago office, I think it was on Foster Ave. Our pediatrician at Swedish hospital recommended her. I think she works out of Glenview also. She was really great with my 6 month old & didn't push meds on him or make assumptions. She was pregnant last winter so I can't say anymore where or if she is now.
