I am moving to Willowbrook in a couple of weeks. I've been thinking for a long time that I would like to learn to knit. I've decided that once I move would be a really good time to give it a try since it will hopefully help me meet some new people if I can find some other knitters (and maybe have something to focus on as I grieve the loss I feel with this move). So is there anyone who would like to help a newbie get started and teach me a stitch or two? (Is 'stitch' even the right word? See how clueless I am! Let me know! Thanks!

Greetings! -- and welcome to the Chicago area!

I am not exactly in your area -- I am in Arlington Heights, which is a northwestern suburb, but I have been a knitter for probably 40 years or so These days I mostly knit socks (at least when I am not sitting in class or in a courtroom), but I would be happy to help you in whatever way I can!

And yes -- stitch is exactly the right word.

I am in the Fox Valley area, but I have only knit 2 things - poorly. I just saw in your siggy that you eat organic. We belong to an organic food co-op. They would deliver to Willowbrook. PM me if you want info.

My cousin is a knitter/spinner in Batavia. Here's her website. She's familiar with most of the local knitting/spinning/crafty groups, I think, and she's really nice! She does a great podcast.

I'm not the greatest knitter, but I know the basics. I'm in Lyons which is about 15-20 minutes from Willowbrook. My OB is in Willowbrook.

Done with diapers!!

Bringing back this thread from the depths....

It has taken a long time to get settled into our new home. I've had to focus most of my time on helping take care of my mom who is in the advanced stage of Alzheimers. We have been here since the middle of September, but the unpacking has only just begun in the last couple days. The days are getting away from me that's for sure. I really would like to follow through on learning to knit (see my sig! ) and think that it would be especially good for me now...something new to focus on besides all the tragic chaos going on with my mom. So Valerie, New Natural Mom, and akafrogs expect some PMs from me. And smokeylo, thanks for that link! I haven't had much chance to look at your cousin's site, but I will definitely be reading through it in the next couple days.

Thanks to all of you for responding to my request for help! You are awesome! : And any other Chicago-area knitters are still welcome to post.

I'm here in Villa Park...just a short jaunt to Willowbrook. I am a knitter (not a great one, but I'm a spinner!) But if you're looking to learn the basics, I can solidly teach the very basics to you.

welcome.

I don't know how to knit, I can crochet but am pretty rusty... If you pick up a Suburban Life paper, should be available in any local gas station/7-11 type store, there is a community section and I have seen knitting clubs in there. I *think* there is one that meets at the La Grange library.

I am a new knitter (um- still working on my first scarf), and we will be (hopefully) moving from Oak Park to somewhere a little further west soon. Lombard, Wheaton, Downers....?

I'll be looking for knitting groups or gangs or posses, etc. when we move- so for now I'll just say hi, but expect to hear from me soon.....

HI! There are a lot of us in the Chicagoland area apparently! There's a knitters group that meets one Friday a month at the Lagrange Park Library - that's at Lagrange Road between Ogden and 31st Street. There's probably a knitters club at your local library, too! I'm almost positive any of those ladies would be happy to indoctrinate you. I mean, teach you.

I'm about 20 minutes away, but not as close as the lady from DG. If you would like to get together, I am free on Mondays and Fridays. (But not this Monday - I'll be out of town.) PM me if you would like to get together.

Wow, pretty rare there's someone from Lyons around! I moved from there about 5 years ago and my dad still lives there. We lived off 47th and 1st ave, I miss my little house! There have been some great changes over the last few years. It's nice to see.
