Anyone have recommendations for a delayed-vax friendly pediatrician in the west burbs? Aurora, St. Charles, Naperville, etc... Our current pedi is very unhappy with our vax decisions and we need to find someone who is on the same page.

This may be too far from you, but we see Dr. Karen Federici of Family First Physicians in Genoa. She is a fantastic doctor (delivered my baby) and her practice is non-vax/delayed vax friendly. Also very pro-breastfeeding. She's a wonderful doctor. You can also check Dr. Sears' website for non-vax/delayed vax friendly docs in Illinois. I think a few were recently added.

Here is the link. http://www.askdrsears.com/thevaccine...ly_Doctors.asp

In addition to Dr. Federici, it appears that there are doctors in Lincolnwood, Chicago and South Elgin.

Good luck!

We don't vax either of our two kids and Dr. Overcash at Dryer Medical Clinic has never ever given us a hard time about it or even questioned our decision. I would not say the same for the other pediatricians in that office and avoid seeing them, but am very happy with Dr. Overcash.

We go to Campton/Briarwood Pediatrics in St. Charles and South Elgin. The same practice also has an office in North Aurora (and DeKalb). We are delaying vax somewhat along the lines of the Dr. Sears recommendations and have had no problems. I did have to sign a waiver, which I have no problem doing. I'm not sure how they respond if you choose not to vaccinate at all.

They have three ped's in the practice now and I have mostly dealt with Dr. Masood. I have also spoken briefly about the issue with Dr. Decker and she seemed receptive to our intentions. I have no idea how the third ped., Dr. ******, is about the issue. We've seen Dr. ****** a couple of times about other issues and I thought that she was a good ped.

Feel free to PM with any other questions.

We have yet to find a good ped, but I do delayed vaxing, so they haven't thrown us out of a practice yet. My DD just turned 5 and I want to get the MMR, maybe split up so I want to find a new ped.

This is what I copied and pasted from previous threads:
-----------------
Dr. Michael Sheade in Streamwood/Elgin meets that criteria - he's excellent. He's also supportive of selective/delayed/no vaxing. www.aipdocs.com

vailable at that age, I said I wanted only measles, didn't want the others, he said OK. A friend of mine sees him as well, and he all but said to her (without actually coming right out and saying it) that he doesn't recommend the varicella vax. They keep the separate MMR components in stock and don't blink an eye if you ask for them.

With DS2, he said that we'd start vaxing at 2 months, I said that I wanted to follow a selective/delayed schedule, he said whatever I want to do is fine, just bring in the schedule we want to do so they have a copy for his chart. Obviously I don't do no vax, so I'm not sure what his reaction is to that, but I can't imagine he'd have a problem with it, he's so easygoing about everything else.

As far as breastfeeding goes, DS2 was having weight gain issues and he didn't even mention supplementing, just said to keep on nursing and come in for weekly weight checks. Other friends that have used him have said that he's very supportive of BFing as well. And he's never tried to retract either of my kids or tell me to retract for cleaning, or anything like that.

With everything I've ever had questions/concerns about, he's taken a 'you're the mom, you know best' approach rather than an 'I'm the doctor, I know best' approach, and I love that about him.

Dr. Karen Federici in Genoa is wonderful and very supportive of alternative vax choices. She sometimes posts on MDC.

We like Homefirst very much--they're very supportive of delayed/no vax. They are homebirth doctors and are very supportive of nursing for as long as you can, tandem or otherwise.

Dr. Paul Schattauer is our favorite, Dr. Zumhagen is also good.

Don't know how close it is, but there is a Dr. Jennifer Schening in Elgin. I think she is okay with everything you describe. Don't know her contact info, though.

Thank you all for the info! We met with Dr. Federici, and while she was great, the wait at her office was over an hour before we saw her! Not good. She didn't even apologize, which was disappointing.

We met with Dr. Schening and she is great!! She was full of sooo much information and is definitely on the same page as us when it comes to vax, healthy/organic eating, etc. We are very excited to have found her for our daughter Thanks again everyone for the info!

Dr. Emilio Cabana in Downers Grove didn't flinch at my daughters 3 year visit. Very patient and a great listener.

Is Schening in the same office as Federici? Does Dr. Federici sign a medical waiver? How does that work in IL. In Iowa (we jsut moved) I had a med waiver.......Do I have to sign a religious one here? Where do i get the forms?

Also, with regards to the wait time.....Our last doc was like that. They were always 40minutes+ behind - but when you were in with them they gave you fabulous attention. I'm happy to wait if i know that's the case.

Ugh, I am trying to get my DD#1 in preschool again and it seems so daunting! and i am feeling really wound up over the vax issue -being out of my element

I was coming here to ask the very same question!

I do have one other important question though, if anyone knows, are any of these doctors covered by state medical/Harmony Healthcare?

We're having a hard time finding someone we can trust who is covered by our plan.

Thanks!

It's my understanding that Harmony Healthcare is one of the health plans under Allkids. If that's the case, than you are for a search of a lifetime. We too have that insurance and no luck so far. Some do accept it but not at the moment and won't have space for at least a year, others don't accept at all or no new patients. My DD is EBFed ans we don't do well baby check ups after we dealt with 3 different peds. I know, we have to find a ped before winter, just in case but it's so depressing

Another practice that is OK with delayed vaxing is www.WheatonPediatrics.com

I wouldn't say all of the peds say nothing (Dr. Zubair doesn't bat an eye about it, but Dr. Ables made me sign a statement of refusal) but I've never had major issues. Your best bet is Dr. Rucoba.

I really like them overall . . .they are very efficient, get you in on time, ask a lot of questions, respect your views, sick appts. are so easy to get, the nurses are generally very good, and, for me-- a BIG plus is that they are on staff at Children's Memorial. To me, that trumped everything else, because if my children ever need serious medical help, that is the only place I'd trust.

 2/02, 4/05, 2/07, 11/09, and EDD 12/25/11 wave.gif
