Hi Folks!

I have a question to help support my sister who is living in the twin cities and is now at the hosptial due to some serious medical issues which have arisen again with her pregnancy.

Her situtation with her DH is the following - he was recently laid off, and has 5 month COBRA coverage (paid by the company) and she was working p/t until recently.

What are some options for her to apply for in terms of state assistance and coverage and the baby?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Kate

She should have no problems applying for Medical Assistance once her Cobra runs out. She just needs to go to her county office and say that she needs to apply for health care. If she's hospitalized, DH should be able to go in for her, and bring the paperwork back for her to sign, etc. She'll just need copy of their birth certificates and verification of income. I just had my trusty MA paperwork out for helping someone else, and to get MA for a pregnant woman, they can make up to $4200 a month (for a family of 3) and still qualify, and infants under the age of 2 can qualify if you make under $4273 a month for a family of 3. There is no asset limit for kids or pregnant women.

Sarah, Mommy to DD age 6, DD age3 , and TTC #3.

Thank you! I will follow up with her to make sure she has applied for this!

Medical assistance can back-pay up to 3 months as well as long as she was eligible the entire time.

Erika, mama to three beautiful kids (plus one gestating), and wife to one fantastic man.
