Hi there,

I am at the beginning of my second pregnancy. I'd love to hear anyone's experience with an HBAC in the Twin Cities. My first midwife felt strongly that I would be a great candidate for an HBAC. What is the general out of pocket expense for a home birth in the Twin Cities? (We just move here!)

Thanks!

I would say the general cost is about $3500 which includes all prenatal and post-natal appointments and the birth. There are lots of great providers and options in the Twin Cities and I think most have no problem with HBACs.  Vanessa Coldwater-Stevens would be great for an HBAC- she's a VBAC mom herself!

The average cost of a homebirth midwife is anywhere between 3000-4000 dollars. This includes all of the prenatal visits, the birth, and six weeks of postpartum care. Most midwives accept payment plans, if this is something that your family needs to do. FSA's usually cover homebirth midwives too. This is usually an additional cost for the birth kit, but I think on average they are around 50-60 dollars, sometimes less, depending on the midwife. Some midwives include a birth pool with the fee.

Here are a couple of websites that have a list of homebirth midwives in the twin cities:

MFMidwifery.org

Minnesotabirth.com

Happy interviewing!!

I was just meandering on Mothering, going through old posts and I saw this one. I was just wondering if you found a midwife and are on your way to an HBAC!?
