We're currently living in northeast PA but we can't wait to get back to the Mountains! I lived in Evergreen for 3 years, met my husband there who had lived there off and on for 12. When we move back, we may try out some other community though. I was wondering, how does the cost of living compare around the state? Is it less expensive to set up shop deeper in the mountains? Thanks!
I would use a cost of living calculator. We live in N Colorado and my kid plays hockey so just in the last couple weeks we've been around- it seams as though gas is more expensive the further south and west you go from here. Food is definitely more pricey in the resort areas, as is housing. Using your location - it's 19% more expensive to live where I do (foothills), Livermore (mountains) is 27% more, Evergreen is 43% more, Eagle (mountains)is 53% more, Canon City is 2% less (mountainish), Walden is (mountains)13% less and Pueblo is 17% less.
I live in Summit county and it's FREAKING expensive!!! To have a family here is like having 1 kid and 1 kid only! (Although I want 4!) I live in Breckenridge and pay 1650 for a 3bd/2.5ba town home.... and that's a really good deal! Most other places are like 2200-2400 for a house.
I love Evergreen and would live there if I didn't have such a great paying job here in the county. It's neat, you get paid more up here because of the cost of living... so really it all evens out.

Jolene99, where in northeast PA do you live? I'm in Allentown and also looking to move to CO. I'm hoping to visit for the summer and travel around until I find a good place to settle down.
