This is a great idea! Six meals for the effort of one big pot of soup; brilliant! I'm definitely in.

LizzyQ: There might be a few veggie soups there, but I don't know about vegan. If you have vegan friends, you should invite them to assure some!! The more soup the better!!! :
I know emma_goldman makes a mighty fine vegan stew/soup!

I already know there is going to be more than us MDC'ers there. Many at Wasatch Commons are already eager to join in, I have a few family members. BRING ANYONE that LOVES TO COOK AND EAT SOUP!
You may not be able to take home EVERY soup there, but you get to choose which soups you take home!
If you want 12 quarts, you have to BRING 12 quarts. (preferably 2 different kinds at that point! Variety is key!)
You will receive back as many quarts as you bring.

You will find the Seattle groups Soup Swap Guidelines HERE.

OH! And we will have The Telling of Soup. Because every soup has a story.

BUMP!

What to Bring:
Bring SIX quarts of a frozen soup. (1 quart = 2 pints = 4 cups = 32 fluid ounces).
Bring six quarts of the same soup if possible, but if you show up with two kinds of soup
to make the required SIX quarts we will not turn you away - the real requirement is that
everyone has the same amount of soup in same size containers.

Be mindful of soups that do not freeze well, like potato or cream soups. If you do this
type of soup, perhaps send them in separate containers or give last minute instructions,
"after heating, add 1 cup cream", for example. Identify your soups with labels or marker
in case your containers look the same as someone else?s. And finally, be sure to include
any necessary ?accessories? to your soup, like cheese (also in a freezable container).

What to Expect:
6:30 - Arrive promptly with your 6 quarts of frozen soup. EAT SOUP! (provided) DRINK
WINE! (you bring)
7:30 - the Telling of the Soup! This is each chef's opportunity to talk about what makes
their soup special. Is it organic? It is spicy? Does it have anything someone might not
be able to eat? Is it a treasured recipe?
8:00 - the soup swap! Participants will each be given a number. Person #1 picks the first
soup, Person #2 the second and so on, until everyone has selected a soup. Repeat six
times until all the soup is gone.
8:30 - Everyone should now be leaving with the same amount of soup, but now it is a
wonderful mix of soup!

Etcetera:

* Please bring an item to share: Wine, bread, cheese, crackers, fruit...
* You don't have to be present to participate. Just make arrangements to drop off the
soup, and choose someone to pick your soups for you (proxy pickers will pick last).
* If you bring a non-perishable food item (or two), we'll donate it to the Utah Food
Bank.

Please RSVP!

Lizzy,

I'm not vegan, but the soup I'm bringing is vegan (a Thai pumpkin, with coconut milk).

Soup Number One: Coconut Curry
We added chicken and a few other veggies and it was delicious. Next time we make it I want to add some spice! Oh yeah!
Thanks Amy!

OOH! OOH! My first soup was TOMATO BASIL :

THANKS KAMILA & DAVE!!!
Sagan, Ember and I LOVED IT! :

I think soup swap was a necessity for me this year. WHY? You ask? Because I've been having a REALLY HARD TIME in the kitchen... in my house. All things food/nutrition and love/relationship have been in serious conflict.
My husband doesn't like anything GOOD. Some of you know this and know my plight (or inability) to "please the husband" and know the toll it's taking on my sanity and health. :
anyway,
I needed soup swap. I needed to feel FREE to cook whatever I LOVED and WANTED to share with people who wouldn't act all hang dog and butt-hurt even if they didn't like my soup. I needed to see all those wonderful soups at the Soup Swap, and see people EATING them and ENJOYING them.
I needed to fill my freezer with lots of different soups and stand back in admiration and know that for at LEAST 6 meals, me and the kids would be well fed, well cared for, without conflict, without fear and intimidation.
I ALSO:
needed to watch my husband turn up his nose and not eat at soup swap, because even though there were THREE delicious soups there for eating, AND salad; they weren't "good enough" for him. Oh, wow... so it's NOT just me!!! I am not the root and cause of all his culinary pain! :

I needed to realize that there is NOTHING WRONG WITH ME... OR my cooking. There is nothing wrong with my food, the soup, ANYONE's soup. There is, however, something wrong with my husband, and I REALLY needed to see that. For my own sanity, I needed to see it in a way that I could believe it.

HOW is that helpful to me? I've been at the end of my rope mamas... and soup swap helped me AT LEAST tie a knot at the end of it.

Thanks for letting me USE YOU in a strictly selfish way. Hopefully your 6 delicious soups that you didn't have to cook yourself are enough payment.

Different drummer dancing with 3 kids in 3 decades.
