My midwife did home visits at 1 and 4 days and an appointment at 2 weeks and will do another at 6 weeks. These are all for both me and the baby. We're not planning any vaccines until 2 months, but we're picky about brands and want to get that squared away ahead of time. We'd also like to give our pediatrician a chance to meet our baby, so we're planning to go in at 1 month.
It just depends on what your midwife covers and what you want for your baby. As to switching pediatricians, that's really totally up to you. I decided that for some things, I needed to have my pediatrician behind me 100%, and for other things, I have a slightly different philosophy than she does, but I still think that she can provide the care that I need and that my child needs despite our differences in philosophy.
