Hi all,

I am about 7 weeks pregnant with my second child. I have only been in Arizona for the past 4 months. I gave birth naturally to my DD in a hospital back home in Ireland under the care of a midwife. I'm looking to have a similar experience this time. I have looked into Blossom and Babymoon Inn and I like them but my husband is not so sure of going outside a hospital. That said, he's not so aware of how interventions are more common here than they would be in Ireland and I'm really not keen on having too much done to me unless it's necessary. My last birth went really well, I progressed very quickly as I laboured at home until I was 4-5 cms. Of course there's no guarantee that will happen this time. I'm living in Chandler. Would anyone have any personal recommendations for me of good midwives who are supportive of natural birthing? Or has anyone been to Blossom or Babymoon and found them good? I have started ringing around different places to get in and meet the midwives and see if we click but it's so hard to know. Thanks all in advance.

You're fortunate to be in Chandler.  A lot of midwifery there and in Mesa and Tempe.  I'm in Peoria and am planning a natural home water birth.  My widwife Pamela Qualls is awesome and very knowledgable!  My massage therapist delivered at Blossom and she said she had an incredible delivery with her midwife.

The best of luck with your 2nd birth! I know this is not "helpful" but you'll find the info you need with a little research.

The Bethany Midwives deliver at Phoenix Baptist. There are also a few midwives at St. Joe's. I think you could find them on the hospital website. If not, please email me and I will look at my registration cards for my childbirth students to see who they use there.

Hello! Welcome to AZ!

I've been to Blossom for ICAN meetings, and heard all good things smile.gif

If you decide to look at a home birth route: Stephanie Soderbloom at Nurturing Hearts Birth Services is awesome.

Even if you don't go that route- I strongly recommend hitting up one of their "Bellies Meetings" on every other Tuesday night, (there is one tonight) all pregnant women discussing pregnancy- real cool group of ladies from all different walks (hospital, birth center, and home). You could probably meet woman who know Blossom better and may have recommendations for you. The meetings are free and fun, I go even though I'm not seeing Stephanie (pregnant with twins).

You can find NHBS on Facebook for more details smile.gif

Try checking out South Mountain Midwives. Jeanne is a CNM who is just restarting her homebirth midwifery practice here in AZ, but has been a midwife for over 30 years. You can reach her at 602-769-2615 or [email protected] :) I know she'd be happy to meet with you and discuss homebirth, birth center, and hospitals births, since she has had experience in all settings. Good luck to you!
