I just moved here from the SF Bay Area of California and will be here with my 19 month old son until September. My son's father's family are here as a source of help and support for care so that I can work from home for my San Francisco job.
We had Medi-Cal health insurance in California because my income is low and I don't have health insurance. It was not a big deal to get it in CA, but when I looked to see about getting low-income care here in AZ I noticed that what they call the KidsCare program here has been "frozen" since 2010 due to lack of funding.
I live up in Carefree, AZ right now and it takes quite a while for me to do things around the greater metro area. I would like to know if anyone here has any firsthand experience or knowledge about dealing with the bureaucratic agencies for lower income people here and what I might come to expect. Long waiting list? How long does the process take to apply, etc.
I just want to get decent healthcare for my son while we are here and don't make enough money to be able to pay $75-150 out of pocket every time he needs to see a doctor.
Any thoughts and experience are helpful. Thank you!
Kidscare is a different program then AHCCCS Health Insurance. My kids were on Ahcccs, and it is like medicad.
