California seems to swallow up us Nevadans! Just curious if there are any like minded Mama's on here from northern Nevada. This isn't a very "crunchy" place, and I would love to find some local moms out there. Feel free to PM me if you meet that criteria!

I'm not there yet, but I will be in another four or five months! We're moving from New Hampshire in the Fall.

What makes you say it isn't a very "crunchy" place? Is there gratuitous use of plastic and styrofoam? A scarcity of natural food shops? Is it people's attitudes toward environmental concerns?

Should I be afraid?

I'm on the Reno Natural Mothers group, and they are very friendly. More into the early-childhood issues -- doulas, breastfeeding, cloth diapering, etc. -- than I am, as our only child is almost ten, but still very nice. I look forward to meeting some of them when we get there. Especially if some of them have older children too.

Finding space and peace of mind, right where you are. Knowing that the less you own, the more control you have.

I'm on that list and I have an almost 11 year old and a 6.5 year old. I don't think I'm particularly crunchy, however.

It's cold here now and it snowed today, but no accumulation. So maybe it will feel just like home--or maybe you should be afraid.

I'll post some crunchy or otherwise interesting links:

I used to live in Fallon, are you moving to the Base? I thought it was a nice place; my dh hated it.

And OP, I'm in Reno too. I had never seen that other site, Viola! I have to go join!

I think Reno is pretty middle of the road, as far as crunchiness goes. There's a pretty strong environmental movement, but there's also quite a few more conservative types.

I will say that I have NEVER experienced some of the things I read about on here, like people scorning me for babywearing or NIP. Even before babywearing was cool. And I can only think of one public spanking I've seen.

But on the other hand, everyone I know does CIO and T/O. so yeah, I guess middle of the road!

Nope, we found some property outside of town that we really like.

I'm rather hesitant about the area from a social standpoint (I currently live in an extremely liberal, crunchy area), but I'll give it a chance My primary exposure to Nevada so far has been gun shows (my husband makes and sells knives), so my perspective is a little skewed.
