Hello,

I will most likely be relocating to the Tahoe area (North Shore, Nevada side) in the next few months. I'm curious to know about the parenting and natural living scene in the area. Any advice on where to live/nice neighborhoods, organic food sources, natural doctors, ect. What is the year-round residential community like? How kid-friendly is it? What in the heck do you do with a baby in the winter? I have a 4-month-old daughter. . .my first. I'm moving from the West Marin/Point Reyes area. Any tips or advice would be much appreciated! :)

Hmmm, I live about 35 miles away from Incline, over the mountain, where it doesn't snow as much, so I can't really comment on the scene in Incline.  I only go there in summer, honestly, because I don't have chains for my car and I don't ski or anything like that.  We did look at homes in Incline Village when we were looking to buy, and they were pretty pricey at the time, but I don't know what things are like now.

I'll post some links that may or may not be helpful.  A natural food store in Truckee, CA: http://www.livingnaturally.com/retailer/store_templates/shell_id_1.asp?storeID=9F623QASQBSR2L1C0G03N0ET9MQD62W2

Healthy Beginnings Magazine: http://hbmag.com/

A lot of the more holistic or natural healthcare practioners advertise in this magazine.

An Integrative care practice in Reno. http://www.nancyconleymd.com/

Eco-Events calendar for Northern Nevada: http://www.newsreview.com/reno/greenwithnv/blogs#BlogPost-3242528  This newspaper also publishes a green guide of eco friendly events, but I think many of them happen in the Reno/Sparks area.

The Great Basin Food Coop also has many links: http://www.greatbasinfood.coop/

There is a Lake Tahoe MOMS group (moms offering mothers support) and they have a website with their events.

A new museum for kids will be opening in Reno in September: http://www.nvdm.org/

There is also a Children's museum in Carson City.

Here is a site for visitors to the area, geared towards tourists: http://www.visitrenotahoe.com/

Hopefully others with specific answers to your questions will post.  I know there are some Tahoe moms here somewhere. :)

Hello,

I've been looking for like minded group in the Tahoe Truckee area and just saw your post from a couple of years ago.  Did you find any groups that you liked or do you have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Jennifer
