Hi, I'm thinking about relocating to Santa Cruz, and I'm expecting #3 in January. Just wondering what the scene is like for families with more than 2 in the area. Last time I was visiting (when I only had dd), kids seemed few and far between! Will we be cultural aliens? lol.gif

Happy and in love with my family!

I'm definitely out of the norm with my seven. lol.gif

Hope you find someone likeminded to share info and experiences with in your area.

Haha! Thanks for replying! I love big families, but #3 will be our last as dh is definitely set on no more after this smile.gif We are coming out in July to visit famil and check out the scene--it'smy understanding there are a lot of ap type play groups and such, seems like a really nice community and place to raise kids!

Happy and in love with my family!

We have 3 kids and just moved to Santa Cruz from Minneapolis last month! The first week we lived here I was carless, so the kids and I walked everywhere, and I definitely got a lot of, "Wow, are they all yours?" remarks. (It doesn't help that I'm young and look even younger.) I was actually feeling kind of down about it for awhile. Almost all of our friends in MN have 3+ kids, and I was hoping to find some other "big" families out here. I think the cost of living (particularly housing) keeps some people from having more kids. There don't seem to be a lot of kids in our neighborhood, but we're just renting this house for the summer, so we've been looking around to see where the young families live.

With that being said, we LOVE Santa Cruz so far! If you are homeschooling, I think you won't have any trouble connecting with larger families. We've been to a few homeschool meetups since we've been here, and many families had 3-4 kids, so it was nice to know we're not that crazy. However, we're considering sending our kids to private school this Fall, so I'm not sure if we'll find similar family sizes there.

Where are you living now?

Hi, I live in the Santa Cruz Mountains and just had #3. I know several mamas that have 3+. I recently have joined a homeschool group and many have 3-4 kids:) There are so many wonderful programs & activities for kids/families here, I just love it!
