I went there for the first time. I absolutely love the place. Free classes and free consultation?? Is this true? It just sounds too good to be true. P

The one by my house closed. Other are still open. Personally, I wasn't impressed with the store itself. Classes, etc. are good.

Yup, it's free. I love the place! A great selection of natural products, homeopathy, free consults with naturopaths, free kids yoga, etc. What's not to love??

I love the naturopath at ours.
I love the selection of mama cloth. Maybe not as good as ordering online but at least available.
I haven't tried a class yet but have heard great things.

Love them! Wish I lived just a skosh closer to the San Rafael. I'd be there, milking that free-yoga-class cow every day! (And buying things too.) :

It's actually close to an addiction for me. I've considering getting a job there so at leat the cash flow would even out. I think they are struggling though with the down economy and tight credit as the shelves have been a bit empty.

I love them!! Its the only pharmacy I go to. I love the herb people at the San Rafael one, though my favorite lady there moved to oregon. oh well, best of luck to her. Love the store, love the herbs, love the products, love the knowledgeable people. I'm so shy though, that I haven't taken advantage of the classes or consultations. Silly me.

I'm so sad too. I got the email and couldn't believe it. I thought that maybe they'd close a couple of stores, but leave the Berkeley one. It just shows how important t is for us to buy local and support businesses that mean a lot to us. I don't have as much money as I did , but I'm going to be even more careful where I spend every dollar.

i know. we went there several times a week. it feels like losing a friend, as cliche as that sounds.

Happily parenting our snuggly wild child since 2007 and her little brother since 2011!

reilly's mom, me too. I'm going to be extra careful to support small local businesses. and now that they've closed, I'm in this desolation of good pharmacy's. I don't know where I'm going to get my prescription meds or my herbs. *sighs* I'm in San Rafael, so... the local prescription options are pretty much rite aid or walgreens. Both of whom are impossible to deal with, huge corporations, and walgreens pharmacists have a history of lieing to me instead of telling me they don't know the answer. Disturbing. I do go to berkely a lot. are there any other locally owned pharmacies there? any idea about where to get my herbs? (bulk dried herbs, not tinctures or capsules.)

You could try Pharmaca, but they are only in Novato or Mill Valley. Jack's Drugstore in San Ansemo is a nice little small town kind of place, but it's definitely geared toward seniors (and I find their prescription bottles really annoying and hard to open). Ross Valley Pharmacy is supposed to be good, but I've never worked with them.

The closing of Elephant has definitely left a void in central Marin.

while i am all for supporting small business with your dollar and supporting mom-n-pops, this is not what happened at elephant pharm.

sadly, they overextended themselves- opening too many stores and taking on too much debt. when people cut back because of the recession, they did not meet their overly-sunny projections of income and folded quite quickly. it was bad business decisions that closed elephant, not a lack of patronage.

sadly, the employees were given just as little notice as the customers. some will never be paid their wages owed, because of these bad decisions...
