Yes :
http://www.freecycle.org/group/US/Alaska/Anchorage
I am on the Housten and Wasilla ones. I want to be on the Anchorage one, but they require you live closer than I do.
So I have to make do with our little group. Regardless, it has served me very well

Yes, it's extremely active. We've given away tons of stuff over the years. I still check occasionally just for curiousity. There are some silly items but some really great, useful items as well. Quick turnover & high attendance.

Wow, that's really unusual. Freecycle is a NATIONAL organization and it is not up to the list owner to make the rules.

Yeah, that is what I thought. Kinda irked she denied me. I Answered her questions and gave good answers. Not like I was being a smarta$$ or something. I have also been on a Freecycle list before so I know how it all works.

What are the questions;ie. is it how long you've lived in a town? Can't imagine how anything else could be remotely controversial?

I believe there are multiple moderators for the Anchorage Freecycle. I'd just "re-apply" if you are really interested. It seems ridiculous to reject anybody who hasn't yet been a bad player. I understand rejecting people who haven't played by the rules. I had a post recently rejected because "midtown" was too vague.

here is the "quiz" and my answers.

Yeah, I will wholly admit I just scanned the rules and regs. I figured I have done this before, how complicated can Freecycle be.

Well I know right off the bat that one you got wrong is that the first message you post has to be OFFERING something. I wasn't allowed to join a while back because I only needed stuff - I didn't have anything I could part with at the time. I thought it was stinky. I think they shouldn't care what your first message is, as long as you are sometimes posting offering and taking ads so you're not a freeloader (which is what I think they want to avoid).

Yeah, I do and it does.

GE, large capacity.

I have a matching washer too, that one does need a timer ($150 part!)
We just upgraded instead of fixing it.

So you have to take a test?

My dh is born and bred Alaskan and is going up to clean out his grandparents house this June. His grandparents have lived in the same house since the early 50's and grandma was a horder. They are both off to the Pioneer home now and it's his job to organize and clean out the house. He only has a week so this would have been a great option but if he has to take a test and get accepted than no way. Easier to get the ARC come and get it all.

My MIL is the remaining kid and wants pretty much nothing to do with it.

If he only has a short time, I would probably just donate as much as he could to ARC or a similar company.
It takes a few days to gain approval then you have to sift through emails and what not.

HOw about a Garage sale??

Your in Anchorage, right?
I'm going to check with dh tonight, and I'm going to guess that he would be more than glad to take it off your hands.
Just the dryer? Or the set?
Oh. and this makes a difference....by gas, do you mean natural gas, or propane? We do not have access to natural in Willow.

Gas as in Natural Gas but you can just buy a fitting that changes it over to propane. DH says Lowes or a plumbing store would have the fittings.

You are welcome to get it when ever you want. Both or just the dryer. Really, it is just sitting there under the carport.

Oh, I am in Anchorage.

Hmmm, I'm going to guess that we will give them a new home...I will let you know Sat.
I forgot you can switch them back and forth. And the part costs like $5. Did that with a stove I had in an apartment at a camp I worked at.
I tend to hang most of our laundry, but its nice to use the dryer on occasion.
Our electric one costs us a bit to much to run.

After pondering getting it for a couple od days, dh decided we better not.
We have to many other projects back logged, and summer is fast aproaching.
Where does the time fly to?

I was beginning to think I was the only person denied on the Anchorage Freecycle! The moderator must have been on her highest defenses, because she told me (after I failed and questioned the validity of the test) that her elementary school aged-son got 100%...yikes.

I just kinda let it roll off me. I wasn't ready for the re-test, I guess. I was not smarter than a 5th grader, you might say.
