I dont know any there. Still learning which ones are friendly here in Anchorage.

Have you tried looking at the results from www.thebirthsurvey.org?

There's Dr Woppett, though I don't know how VBAC friendly he is. I personally can't stand him, and went to a private OB (Dr Lawrason) for my pg with Camilla. I find Woppett's bedside manner deplorable, and think he's too eager to move ahead with medical interventions. Maybe others have had a better experience though.

Dr Lawrason was awesome! I had laid out my birth plan before even agreeing to the first appt and he was completely behind me in my desire to do everything as naturally as possible. He spends tons of time with each patient, making sure you're as comfortable as you can be with everything. And if he's in town, he delivers his patients, not relying on whomever the on-call person is. When we have another one, if we're still up here in the Interior then we're going to use him as the OB. I've got nothing but good things to say about Dr Lawrason.

(and we're most likely coming to town this weekend -- we wanna see you & L!!)

Have you thought about going with a nice family practice doc instead of an OB?

You know, that reminds me of a wonderful NP we had in Fairbanks. Janice Stables? I wonder if she would do prenatal?
I was going to ask her about that but we moved to CA.

I would but I didn't think FP COULD do VBACS..? (or would) I also really am just looking for a back up in case i have to go to the hospital. I plan on using a traveling midwife for a home birth if all goes my way but I want a Doc who at least knows who I am just in case.

and the native clinics seem to have higher VBAC rates .... that was my thinking

When I was going to VBAC at ANMC, they did not consider me "high risk" and put me with a midwife. At ANMC, C-section rates are climbing and vbacs dropping as new, young, knife happy O.B.s are replacing the old guard. I don't know if it is the same at the clinics or if they even "do" VBAC at the clinics. Keep us posted on what you find.

BUT...don't expect an O.B. to back you up on a HBAC. I don't think they legally could even if they wanted. Sure, they could give you prenatal "scare". But when it comes to transferring to the hospital, I always think of the Albert Einstein quote with a twist:

"You cannot simultaneously prepare for and prevent transferring."

I don't I have no plans to tell them of my plans. 'oops baby came to fast did it all at home' but that was I have someone to call should I have to go to the hospital.

I suppose you could. But that will involve a lot of lying. Whatever your belief system is, you might want to weigh in the "karma/juju/sin/dishonesty" factor. IMO, it's best to go into labor spiritually sound with a clear conscience.
