WOOOOOOO BABY! Always like to hear about new babies. I'm nowhere near seeking one of my own, but WOOOOOO anyway.

So... Bethel is now wet. DH is legally homebrewing as we speak. Interesting stuff. Also, delicious.

Me+DH+DS1+DS2+Dog=me and a house full of guys, which is really just peachy, thanks.

She's not upset by the stitches at all. They did hurt a bit going in, but it was easier to get it all done and go home. They worked quite a while numbing her up, and she decided her eyes should be closed, so that worked.

Right now she's asleep, worn out. I'm not worried about her picking at them, but thanks for the tip. She didn't take kindly to looking in the mirror...that was a HUGE mistake. (Bad mommy).

Good baby waiting vibes to you!

So, am I the only one in America that is not on Facebook? My mom is now on it. Now I'm wondering what I'm missing by not being on it. sigh I think I might have to break down and sign up for it.

On another note, it is getting cool enough at night that I am wanting to turn the heat on, but can't justify it. Autumn walked through the house today and said we need a wood stove because it was cold in the house. It was rather chilly in here today -- down to about 67 in the house. But the wind is howling, so if I close my eyes I can imagine I'm back in Wasilla. lol

You're not missing much.

I do have an account as I have come to realize that many people find other people through there. And with my 20th Reunion coming up, I want to be "Found"

You will spend more time on Facebook than you ever thought you could waste time on a single website in your life. That said, IMHO it's pretty fun.

Fairbanks is pretty chilly right now.. and I forgot to plug my car in last night. Whoops. That said, 1stimestar did you move into that cabin you showed me the pics of? Cuz I had a dream about that last night (I also dreamed a moose came in and wrecked my house, but whatever ).

Penelope, cutting the hair feels so good, doesn't it? I cut off 17" and donated it right about the time we left Fairbanks. It had gotten so long that Emma was forever caught in it would I would carry her LOL! I really think my hair is the single reason she had aversions to strings until she was 2.

So sorry to hear about Iris Poor baby! I'm glad she was such a trooper though. So many times I think their injuries are much harder on us than them.

Well, I'm off to help hubby hang a gazillion or so xmas lights. We are SO far behind this year it's not funny. Hubby even contemplated not doing a light show at all this year.... but I couldn't stand the thought of kiddos pulling onto our street and seeing darkness. That would break my heart... so we are scrambling. We spent most of yesterday changing out all the lights on the house with LED lights. Total PITA, but a huge energy savings. Okay... I've stalled long enough. Time to get bundled up and head out.

I spend my days : : and seeing how many smilies I can fit in my siggy.

Tell Autumn that really mean moms keep their woodstove-heated houses at around 60F. Like me. Seriously, we don't even light the woodstove until it's time to plug in the van, and even then I've started letting it go out at night and setting the Monitor heater to 58F. My kids are used to slippers and lots of blankets (maybe that's why so many of them wind up in my bed at night???)

I am also one of the great unwashed non-facebooking mamas. So don't feel too alone.

My quick fix for that: Download Firefox as your browser. Install Adblock and Flashblock.

Also download and install WOT, and use it. It can help you find bad sites before they put something nasty onto your hard drive.

Good luck w/ the computer!

Our woodstove in the house we had up there probably wouldn't have kept our house so warm if it had been laid out differently. There was easily a 10 degree difference between the living room and the bedrooms. And the house wasn't very big. But the heat didn't circulate very well.

Facebook is how we stay connected to family in the Lower 48. Both my mother and MIL have accounts. Yegads. But it's easier than having to e-mail them pictures of DS... we just post them to FB and they facebook stalk us. I swear, they're having a contest to see who can reply most quickly to newly posted Isaac pictures.

I use firefox and thunderbird. I don't know what WOT is and what the other two things you said were, penelope. Where do I get them?

I normally DONT use many programs because I've always been really good about NOT getting crap on my computer (I've gone six years and not once ever got a virus or adware or anything)

My sister comes over for one night and completely f***s up my computer.

I hear you on people not knowing what they're doing on your computer. :/

I use adblock and flashblock, which you can get from the Mozilla Firefox server. Adblock lets you block out almost all popunders and popovers, etc., and gives you the option to block certain pics (say you're reading the news and are sick of that sidebar...the ad is gone once you right-click and block it).

Flashblock blocks all flashplayer ads and other things unless you UNblock them by clicking the little arrow. It's super easy, and not unfriendly to use.

WOT keeps track of website threats (viruses, illegal downloads, etc), and rates the sites. So before you click on a site, you can drag your cursor over their name on the screen and get a green light, red light, or yellow light. They have tons of info on how the program works. It helps people like your sister, too, who don't know what NOT to open.

Good luck~

I just made a yummy recipe tonight for a potluck!

Here is the recipe.

ingredients

4 cups cool cooked rice
2 cups cooked diced ham
3 cups tiny broccoli flowerettes
3/4 cups dried cranberries (i used a mix of original, cherry and orange flavors)

(the above amounts are approximates and I just made it look pretty with a nice mixture of White, Green, Pink and Red)

dressing

2 cups mayo
1/3 cup red wine vinegar
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup orange juice

whip this together until smooth, pour over rice mixture and mix well.

Top with 1/4+ cup toasted chopped almonds.

Makes a lot for a crowd!

I would LOVE your input on this one:

Traveling with my LO

When it comes to traveling, I'm thinking it might be much different traveling from AK than from the contiguous states. At least down there you can get a direct flight. . . .

Have posted over there. And you can get a direct flight from AK to most places. But they cost several hundred more, usually, and are hard to find. But I've seen them. We actually almost did a direct to Michigan last summer, but I decided that 2 shorter flights with a lay-over was preferable to a 7 hour flight. But I was traveling by myself with an 18 month old, a 5 yr old, and a 7 yr old.

I haven't traveled with little ones before, but I HAVE traveled very pregnant, and I definitely prefer the shorter flights with layovers.. one can stretch their legs, get a snack- if it is a longer layover I can actually go to lunch with relatives (I have relatives in the Seattle area for example). MUCH better on my body for sure. I imagine the same would be true with a little one.

I agree. I have done both and I hate sitting on a plane unable to move around. This seats are much smaller then they were a few years ago, I swear!!

Unfortunately I'm traveling from Fairbanks (which I'm assuming has a fairly small airport) to towns with pretty small airports. I'd be REALLY surprised if there was a direct flight to Colorado Springs, Lansing, or Traverse City.

I think the seats have gotten smaller too. Or maybe we've gotten larger? lol, I suppose as a country we have, but I'm pretty sure I personally have not gotten that much larger!

I forgot you were up north, Sarah. In the future, though, if you wanted to, you could probably fly into Anchorage and get a straight flight from there.

Regarding long flights.... we've done it a few times, and they're tough. What we did the first few times (up until she was about 18 months and very mobile) was: checked the carseat (trust me, you don't want to lug it around), no stroller (just used our ergo), and packed what I could in the diaper bag and that was my only carry on. Last time we traveled, M was about 20 months old, and I still brought the ergo and used it, but got a little cheapy stroller and am so glad I had that to run through the airport to make a connection, and again we checked the carseat. Also, get there early and try to get an aisle seat (more room to move around and easier to get up and walk, etc.).

We've traveled with DS at 6 months and 15 months. Both times I used my Ergo and an umbrella stroller in the airports. I really liked having the stroller. The umbrella stroller was great to basically use a cart getting through the airports. Also for when he fell asleep during a layover, he slept their so I could move around (go to restroom, eat etc.) without worrying about walking him. We used a borrowed car seat so I didn't have that to contend with on the trips.

Speaking of broken pipes.. it is my sons' job to load, run, and unload the dishwasher. A few days ago I noticed some dried looking dishwasher soap near the bottom of the machine, but I didn't think anything of it.. well, it turns out the dishwasher has been running without water. I have running water throughout the house.. is it possible to have a frozen pipe JUST to the dishwasher or is this a different problem do you think? I have the appliance repairman coming tomorrow, but I am wondering if I shouldn't have called a plumber instead? Any guesses?

(everything appears to be hooked up the same way it was before in the back).

it's possible. Does your washer's lines run on an outside walls?
We just had a water line burst in our basement last week. It was hidden in the wall going to a sink that never existed. We never knew that line was there until it froze and ruptured!
But I'm also wondering if perhaps you had a fitting go bad? Maybe it broke off under the dishwasher or something? do you have any water leaking from somewhere?? How many times has the dishwasher been "ran" before you noticed this? I would think that you would notice 15 gallons of water in places they are not supposed to be in. Also, when the washer in on and "running' does it sound like it is working? Could just be something wrong with the washer and no water is actually doing anything.

Good Luck!

Good Luck!
I haven't noticed any leaks.. I think the washer was run 1 or 2 times before I figured out that there was no water.. 1) the dishes weren't getting cleaned and the soap really wasn't dissolving.. but when you turn it on, it makes a running NOISE, so it didn't dawn on me right away that there was no water..
