My DH is in the Air Force. Our family currently lives in Alabama and we expected to be here for another year or two. My DH has been in Afghanistan since November and will get home in a couple weeks. We were just told that we'd be moving to just outside of Anchorage in August.

I am a SAHM to 2 boys: Liam turns 3 in August and is on the autism spectrum (mostly has speech delays and trouble with sensory integration) and Ben turned 1 this last April. I'd love to know about activities to do with young, preschool age children.

I have a ton of other questions, but am overtired as my 1 year old has been sick for weeks in a row and isn't sleeping.

Welcome to Anchorage!

I suggest subbing to the "ongoing Alaskan mama chat".. there should be a June one up in a couple of days.. you will probably get a lot more input.

Here's May:

There is a good range of activities for little ones in Alaska. In the summer there are lots of parks and trails and two lakes you can go swimming at. We have music in the park programs We have lots of cool places to take day trips or longer trips and it is very unique and beatiful.

In the winter we do have some indoor places to take kids. We have the natural history museum, the imaginariam, the spenard rec center has open times for toddlers and preschoolers and and artic gym has open gym in the mornings. We have bouncing bears and indoor bounce place and artic plagroundz a coffee shop with a area for kids to play. The library and zoo has family story times. We also have classes for that age group through various places in town.

Right now we have a breastfeeding meeting on the first friday of the month. It used to be a LLL but now it is juts a parent to parent group until we get a new leader in town.

I have a link to a map with the area of town to avoid I can try to find if you are interested. The base has lots of resources and a lot of cool people live on base.

There is a great group of mamas on meet up.com. I think it is called mothers of infants and preschoolers. We go to the zoo, hike and go to parks. It is a great way to meet other mamas!
