We're considering moving to Hawaii late next year, partly because I would like to do the teacher training at the Honolulu Waldorf School, and partly because my husband and I love Hawaii and would like to experience living there.

Does anyone have thoughts/advice about living there? What are the best ways to find home or apartment rentals? It seems like the costs are quite high for renting. Where are the best neighborhoods for living with kids? Our kids are 2, 4 and 6.

Thanks for any advice.

Mama to 3 kids. We live in a yurt!

Hey!

No advice, but can we come and visit you? I have tried and tried to get dh to move there but he says no.

Good luck!

My advice is: get a large house with plenty of guest room space, a giant yard with a fun swingset and start collecting massive quantities of wine for all of your house guests from Alaska.

Or you could consider starting a Waldorf school in Homer...I can think of plenty of nice neighborhoods in which to live...

The Waldorf School is in a very expensive area, so there is that to consider. It depends how much space you need (yard?) for how much you are going to pay in rent. The people I do know that work there are not making a living wage, so be very clear on what you'll be paid there.

Craigslist is what most use here.

There are two awesome waldorf schools in Anchorage, fyi. You could always spend your winter and summer vacations in Hawaii. Tony can fish. Katie and I would be happy. Your dad would be happy. It's a win win!

The cheaper housing tends to be further away from Honolulu, which is where the waldorf school is. And traffic sucks. Though I think you can find 1 br apts in town for pretty cheap. I wouldn't count on a yard or much of a yard, unless you live out in the country.

Craigslist by far is the best place to find a rental, and good ones go fast. It will give you an idea though of prices.
