Aloha Greetings from the Islands!
Just found this thread wanting to find a midwife for a friend on the Big Island. Came across an article about childrens' earaches and remedies. The article suggested to use the herb Belladonna - and didn't mention HOW to administer, whether by mouth or to place drops directly in the ear. Belladonna is a poison to ADULTS and therefore would really be a problem to a much smaller body. Couldn't believe what I was reading. Also, tea tree oil was suggested. This oil is a dehydrator and should never be placed in the ear. It is used mostly topically for burns, abrasions and other skin problems. The incorrect info about using tea tree has been reproduced over and over.
Ear problems in children can also come from diet (I have seen mothers giving very young children items like coffee, cakes, other sweets, breads, and other products which are unbalance for a young body. Organics are the best.

They were referring to homeopathic belladonna. Odd that it didn't say that. They must have figured people reading that would already know. Give by mouth.
Tea tree is great for ear infections if you are using it right. Straight tea tree oil should NEVER go in the ear. It should be diluted to at least 1 drop per tsp. olive oil or sweet almond oil. Garlic is also great and garlic oil can be made at home.
