I am a new mom of a 6.5 week little girl named Kohia.

My intuition says do not vaccinate but I want to fully research the pro's and con's of the issue.

Can anyone recommend a support group for parents who chose to not vaccinate? Any other local (vancouver) resources that might help guide us through the myriad of pro-vaccination information on this subject and give us some balance?

I am meeting with a doctor in a week so want to be armed with information.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Kirsten,

I don't know of any local support groups (other than maybe posting a message in the Vancouver tribe thread?), but I'm sure you would find a wealth of reading suggestions in the Vaccinations forum.

I have elected not to vaccinate my daughter, and have not really gotten into much of a discussion with my gp or any of the other doctors she has seen, beyond me telling them that I have chosen not to do it. I think if you go in to the appointment feeling confident in your decision, you will not be hassled by them...

Of course, making the decision is probably harder than communicating it to the doctor! Good luck with your reading...

Just adding a couple of books that I found most helpful when reading up on this:

How To Raise A Healthy Child ... Inspite Of Your Doctor , Robert S. Mendelsohn

What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Children's Vaccinations , Stephanie Cave

I also read through the materials provided by the doctor, as well as the BC Immunization Guide (can't remember off the top of my head what it's called, but my gp gave it to me to look over )

There was a great thread about this in the Vaccination forum. I also posted on there a bunch of websites you might find helpful.

In addition, you may want to check out the www.nvic.org as well.

Good Luck!!
