The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair is on next week - it's an old-fashioned, but huge, agricultural fair. The Royal Ontario Museum
has an exhibition of rarely seen Dead Sea Scrolls
right now. The ROM is located on Bloor St. near the Yorkville shopping area - a place where you can spend a lot of money in a very little time. It's also next to Philosopher's Walk
and University of Toronto's downtown campus. It's not exactly a garden, but it's a nice walk nonetheless. The Art Gallery of Ontario
(AGO) would be a nice place to spend a little time. I would combine a trip to the AGO with some shopping along Queen West and West Queen West, two good shopping areas along Queen Street, west of McCaul. There are some great children's stores along that stretch - Kol Kids, The Magic Pony, Polka Dot Kids, Type Bookstore, The Paper Place (beautiful Japanese papers and origami books for crafts) - I'm sure I'm forgetting a few.
The AGO is also not far from Chinatown and Kensington Market, another place to find some interesting shopping. If she likes markets, St. Laurence is another one.The Distillery District
is a reclaimed warehouse area with shops and galleries. I think it's busier and more interesting on the weekends.Edwards Gardens
has nice walking paths.High Park
is a large park, with lots of naturalized areas, a huge pond and a small zoo. It's also close to the Bloor West Village area for shopping and cafes.
Speaking of zoos, the Toronto Zoo is one of the best in the world. Take comfortable shoes. I don't think it's possible to cover the zoo in one day, but if you tried, it would take you the entire day and you would be moving fast the entire time!
Other places - the CN tower, the Hockey Hall of Fame, Roy Thompson Hall, the Four Seasons Opera Hall, the new Koerner Hall, various theatrical shows...Hope you both have a great time!
