Happy Holidays everyone!
We had a small Christmas here, the kids and I made cinnamon ornaments and dh and I got the kids only one gift, a playmobil farm. I would't have splurged, but dh really wanted it We had dinner with my inlaws on Christmas Eve and with my family on the 25th.
My daughter got her first Bratz doll which she won't be keeping. I was shocked that my grandmother would buy one.

sounds like happy holidays! great when folks can (mostly!) get along. i'm finding it quite challenging to live in two places, but our children are blissful.

we've had a gentle christmas, still going as my sister is just coming into town now. lots of homemade things too and we even gave my older one *classes* for christmas (she asked for them - handweaving + pottery) so that is unprecedented. the designers in the house collaborated on the certificates, they are gorgeous!

thanks erica, santa got her 'anna banana', rhymes for skipping, made our own double dutch skipping ropes as apparently you don't need handles for the long kind...hardware store, lovely shiny rope cheap and good.

i'm really enjoying this beautiful cold, foggy, frosty weather, it is just magical in deep cove, i'm a lucky girl. and there's a new yoga studio opened up round the corner from me!

Christmas was wonderful. I even liked most of the gifts the kids got from extended family (including some clothes, a "decorate your own princess wand" kit, Klutz books, etc.). My sister got a pass from the hospital, so we got to see her on Christmas, and she got to watch her kids open some of their gifts. DH spoiled me rotten.

DD2 has her first tooth! It popped through today. She's growing up so fast!!

ETA: So...I apparently posted about Christmas already. I had no idea. I don't think I'm getting enough sleep...

Oh, great Elisa, glad that all worked out! We'll have to make a skipping date one of these years when we get our trips coordinated again! I can only imagine how stressful it must be to be traveling back and forth so much......

We made a trip out to the property today, to check on the yurt. Still standing, though there was a deep layer of crusty snow on top. We knocked it all off, it was really heavy, and then hung out for an hour or so - it's beautiful in the winter, with ice encased branches and snow covered leaves! Then when we got home, we had to duck away from all the falling ice off the tree branches - the weather here is crazy! Seems like a day inside making soups and hanging out is in order for tomorrow. Glad everyone is enjoying their holidays - now time to gear up for New Years resolutions and celebrations!

sounds lovely erica. it is a little nutty traveling so much. we're probably going to be in london for a 5 month stretch this round, which sounds a bit lonely on the one hand and a relief to settle down on the other.

i *love* new years and i'm very excited for new plans. one of my first is to return to a daily yoga practice, and the rest is all making things

i'm going to show my work to a curator friend this week. *tremble* i need luck

Oh Ksenia - I know you guys have been working long and hard on this issue, and so although right now seems stressful and scary, I hope that it leads to a sense of peace and stability. And in the immediate future, be kind to yourself - I was thinking of all the things we try to do with our kids when they're experiencing fear and bits of shock. Perhaps putting rescue remedy in your water bottles, and taking lots of hot baths will help you get through the immediate days? All the best to you right now, and huge huge hugs of support from afar.

Aww, huge huge hugs from me too, Ksenia. I can understand how that would be both really sad and scary.

Our Christmas Day kitten is working out well, despite the fleas. Fleas are now taken care of and everyone is pretty happy. We decided Shadow was boring, so we've changed his name. I was going for Diesel (he purrs really loudly), but Emily didn't like that, so we settled on Ollie, short for Molecule. : He's a very warm molecule - bounces everywhere.

((((Ksenia))))

Good luck, Artparent!

Everyone please send good thoughts to my sister. She's in St. Paul's cardiac unit, after open heart surgery. Things don't really look that good.

Oh, Lisa, sending healing thoughts your way....

Happy New Year to everybody this evening. We are staying home for a quiet evening. After being away for a few days it's nice to just hang out at home. I'll likely fall asleep before midnight but oh well.

Thank you all. I have a thread in TAO, but to summarize:

Her surgery was yesterday. She had a valve replacement, a valve repair, and six separate blockages were bypassed. She was in OR for 8.5 hours. They're keeping her unconscious until tomorrow, at the earliest. Her heart is scarred (at some point, she had a major heart attack, which was missed) and the heart muscle is very weak. So...we're hoping the surgery does the trick, as the surgeon has mentioned the possibility of putting her on the transplant list.

She's been in the hospital since the 15th (her 40th birthday), and we don't know when she's coming out, or when she's going home. (She has four kids, and will probably not be able to go straight home after discharge, due to the layout of her place, and the commotion of the kids.) So...we're all trying to stay positive, but it's been a scary few weeks.

Lisa, hoping your sister recovers quickly and completely...

Ksenia, I didn't catch your first post, but assuming, from this last post, that this is what it referred to... huge hugs to you and yours, and so sorry that life is so stressful for you right now...

I don't have time to post anything else right now, will come back tomorrow when the sand is out of my ears, but wanted to quickly pop in for hugs.

much peace to all of you...

I wanted to let everyone know that we are trying to put together a knitting meetup this week. Wednesday or Thursday seems to be the choices, somewhere around mid-Main street, probably around 7-ish?
