I'm wondering if anyone out there has been through this...
I'm pregnant with baby #2 and vowed that I would not give birth in a New Brunswick hospital again! Since there are no midwives here, I would really love to go to a birthing centre in Quebec (have family there). Has anyone else done something like this? I'm imagining that there is no hope that my NB medicare will cover the expenses in QC, but a girl can dream, right?
My understanding is the birth centres have major waitlists, and even women who sign up immediately upon discovering they are pregnant do not necessarily get a midwife.
Fortunately, there are some very professional "private" midwives if you are willing to pay them directly yourself. You'd have to attend the monthly appointments, so you'd have travel expense on top of the few thousand dollars for your private birth team.
The other thing is you'd have to find someone who can personally refer you to one.
Sorry it's probably not what you wanted to hear...
I also just realised this post is incredibly old so you've probably already had the baby !
