I'm so stinkin' bummed that I can't go check out the new Yarn Ho Hangout! You'll have to tell me how wonderful it is I guess

On a happier note, I just saw Tamara's new Banner Ad!

Checked out the Loop today, it's pretty simple looking, and the upper cafe area seems small and not stroller accessible at all.

BUT they have some lovely touchable yarns.

I treated myself to the SnB Nation book, it has a very in-depth lesson on adjusting a pattern to what you want it to be, and a quick reference guide in the back. I also bought a super cute pattern for a hat that has a whale tail coming out the top, too cute!!

Hey, I just realized that tomorrow's Thursday. (Uh, it is, isn't it?) And since no one's asked for directions to our place, I guess that we can sleep in tomorrow, eh? I'm ok with that - I just realized that I have a million and one things to do because it's almost FREAKIN' Christmas. And my gift knitting is sorely behind schedule.

Oh, and btw - if anyone can make it out tonight to the Halifax Stitch and Bitch - it's growing by leaps and bounds, and the coffee's always good. It starts at 7:30 - goes until about 10, at Uncommon Grounds, South Park Street.

I was just coming to ask where we were meeting this week. If you're still up to hosting, we'll be there tomorrow. I think I still have the address, but I'll PM you if I need it. Let us know! Especially since you're so close to us!

Tamara , WAHM to Rayne (03/05) and Aurora (05/08).

Alison, did you still want to try out the jogging stroller? If you were going to be at Deb's tomorrow I could easily bring it with us. Let me know!

Really? There's usually at least two or three women there every time that I show up. Maybe now that the weather's getting blustery, everyone's returning to the coziness of wool.

Btw, I got an email from that eBay wool seller again. They're introducing some new colours for winter. And at $6 US a skein, it's a sweet deal. I think that I'll be getting some. (I really need to develop a self-control impulse.) Anyone else want yarn? We could do a quickie co-op and split the shipping costs. I'm seriously impressed with this merino - I don't think that there's any siginificant difference between this yarn and HPY...and that's saying a lot, considering that Tangled Skeins is selling HPY/Malabrigo for $16 CDN a skein.

Deb, I might be interested! Did she give you a link to the new colours? The shipping is actually reasonable when you're ordering large quantities. I still haven't got mine--I'm guessing you ordered enough to make fedex the best deal, while I only ordered a measley six skeins! Hey, maybe it arrived today and I'll find it when I get home!

So is there an Ebay seller that sells size 8, 12 " circular needles? I've been looking but can't find them for less than 20$. If this the best I will get? I'm really not liking knitting on double pointed needles. I keep dropping stiches and getting holes. :

Here are the new colours:

Festival

Red Deep

verdes & morado

antonella

overturn

marianne

celeste & grises

limao

timid

aquarium

gray & black

estilo

hortensia II

yellow & gray

red - blue

black

red - black

glamour

red weak

carmesi

pradera

paradise

Phew! I'll definitely be getting some black. And maybe some other colours as well...btw, you can order as many in a colour as you like - there's no minimum order from the seller! As long as we have more than 20 skeins ordered, each skein is $6 + shipping. And of course, she still has lots of the older colours available too.

I'm going to start a Yahoo group for this co-op - it's open to any Canadian wanting some of this merino. I'm also going to ask the Halifax SnB ladies if any of them want in on the co-op, so we should be able to meet the minimum no problem.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/cdnyarnenablers

Tamara - did you want metal, plastic, wood or bamboo?

Tamara, the only way to get them cheaper is to order them from Europe, as far as I can sell! Turns out there's this big import tax on knitting needles for some reason, so the addis are half the price over there that they are here. Also, I've never seen them on sale!

Find a UK online store or e-bay seller that sells them, and you'll see they're about 8 dollars Canadian!

I'm not really picky on what they are made of. I'd just prefer to find them for less than $20. Alison, is there a store in Europe that you've shopped at before that you'd recommend? I don't mind ordering them this way, if they are going to be half the price!

Hi all, just dropping by for a quick visit! The ebay seller you were mentioning (100purewool) is open to coops.......there is already a Yahoo group that I joined which orders from her (the more skeins, the better the price obviously)....starting a Canadian one is a good idea! This particular Yahoo group also did a Peace Fleece coop order.

Hey Alison...I'm almost done with Mika's sweater (from your pattern)...it's going to be cute!

Bye all R

Lucy's Open House

45 Dorothea Drive

Dec 10th ‘05, 1 - 5 pm

It’s that time of year again!

Come and join Lucy, Corrie, Kathleen and Susan (and probably Mr. Cuddles) for our SEVENTH annual open house.

Corrie is catering - with her mouth-watering array of cookies and hot apple cider.

We have new goodies including:

The Sea Lettuce Scarf pattern - yes there is time before you-know-when!

Opal Saphir - a wonderful self patterning heavier-than-sock weight yarn.

A new collection of designs from Ilga Leja; Ilga will be here with her samples

Copies of the hilarious Canadian book "Yarn Harlot" by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee.

One day-only special offer on Lucy’s patterns - all 50% off (attendees only).

Many bargain books - looking for a new bookshelf.

Inox Express needles, 30% off.
And I'm not working that day--anyone want to go?

Also, I went to London Wul just outside of Moncton over the weekend--if you are ever up that way it is so totally worth the time to visit. It's lovely. Because it's on her own farm, it's huge, not like our tiny little yarn stores. She has this 40% angora, 60% wool that is to die for (I didn't buy any, what was I thinking!), and a lovely wimpy newfoundland puppy called Angus! It's also what they call in NB an econo-museum, and she has an attached workshop where she spins and stuff and you can see it all as you wander around the yarn store. A lot of her own wool, and a nice selection of other stuff and, of course, being in NB, a ton of Briggs and Little.

We'll be there. Alison, it was too late by the time I remembered to call you about the book, but if you read this before you leave, do you mind grabbing it for me? We'd like to try to make our own rice cereal! If you get this too late, don't worry about. I'll try to remember earlier next time!

Hi guys. I'm not going to make it today, we had a bad night last night where Andrew pretty much didn't sleep, on top of me not getting home from my bookclub until after 11! I have too much to do today that I'm just not going to get done if I try to knit as well.

Next week maybe!

For those of you that I was going to bring stuff for, Charlene and Tamara, if either of you are going to be down my way, I can leave things in the foyer for you to pick up. Just let me know which day.

That's too bad Alison, I hope you guys have a better night tonight! Grace woke around 12:30 last night, and felt it was time to play and party. It was around 3 before she finally settled.

Tamara, I'm so sorry that I missed you today - feel free to come over and pick up the Freehand anytime. I seem to be coming down with a bit of a cold...so I thought it better that I didn't infect anyone else!

So, how is everyone's Christmas sweatshop knitting going?

ETA: I just got the prices back from the eBay seller that's providing the yarn for the co-op I'm running. Here they are:

Merino handpainted:
Up to 20 skeins $6.5 each skein
Between 20 and 100 skeins $6 each skein
More than 100 skeins $5.7 each skein

Merino undyed:
Up to 20 skeins $5.5 each skein
Between 20 and 100 skeins $5 each skein
More than 100 skeins $4.7 each skein

To this prices you have to add the shipping costs.

Well, quite a few of the ladies at the HRM SnB are interested, and Lesley's already joined the co-op. I'm only going to be closing it in January, so there's still lots of time to join the yahoo group.

I know that we'll have at least 20 skeins of the coloured yarn...so that means that it'll probably be $6 a skein. As for the undyed yarn - I'm still thinking about having a yarn dyeing party (When does Halifax get warm enough to stay outside for prolonged periods in just a shirt? Spring? Summer?) so if people would like to buy undyed skeins for the party from the co-op, that'd be good...

Oooh, tough question! Maybe March, maybe June! and then again it could be warm enough one day but snowing the next! We went camping one year March 31st, we were freezing, it was snowing, we played cards with our sleeping bags up around our necks. Then next day was 20 degrees! Talk about April Fools....

I'll have a look at the yahoogroup. i would like to try some dyeing.
