Oh, definitely in my thoughts as well, I couldn't IMAGINE. :

Hello! Here I am, sitting in Comox visiting friends, chasing chickens out of the Barth and recovering from the chaos of getting here! We're all well, and excited to be here, and for what's to come!!!! I'm not even minding the rainy drizzle, what a perfect excuse to sit in front of the fire and play games!

Ksenia, I love reading your blog, thanks so much for linking to it! It'll be a little bit before we really organize our trip website, but I do keep a blog primarily for family (ie disclaimer to say don't expect it to be overly interesting!!!!!!!) if you ever feel compelled to check it out: http://thefourmckays.blogspot.com

Anyways, just wanted to say hello to all!!!
xoxo

Oh, and I wanted to say....

Mark had a mustache?! Post photos!

Congratulations Kate!!!!!!!!! Perhaps I'll meet your little one when we're driving through Nelson - the Canadian portion will be spring/summer, so I'll look forward to stopping in to see as many people as possible then!!!!

Okay, now off to write holiday cards to mail before we take off!!!!!

robugmom, I'm so incredibly sorry for this family, and I have been praying in earnest all of last night and frequently today.

I drove by the accident site twice yesterday during a trip to North Van, and on the way back I was shocked at the damage sustained by the minivan. I had a sinking feeling as I drove past it all again at 3:00 pm. I felt intuitively that there must have been a fatality or at least severe injuries. There was nothing left of it at the rear. I just felt sick when you posted. I cannot believe the absolute selfishness of individuals choosing to drive as single occupants in the HOV lane. I hope they upgrade the current charges to two charges of negligence causing death. Sorry if that sounds harsh, this was just sooo avoidable.

If there is anything at all that I can do for anyone involved, let me know by PMing me. My heart goes out to this mama. Her life has been so dramatically changed in the blink of an eye.

Happy Happy Birthday Mateo!!!:::

My nephew's 2nd birthday is today as well.

Thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers. Our little community is still reeling from the shock of it. It was impossibly difficult to be at the school today. So much grief...
The media were out in full force at the school and at the church (its a parochial school), the family is pleading for privacy though.

And happy birthday to you Niki! How are you doing - is Addison doing well since her heart surgery? How's Tyson doing?

We're still in Comox here, living a bit of the rural life and checking out what we want once we set up our homestead in Ottawa area! The girls even got to go horseback riding yesterday and are now pleading for horses of their own - I think I'm convinced to find a riding stable with horses that they can borrow, but I'm definitely not keen on the whole horse ownership thing!!!!!!!

Janet was kind enough to give us a tour of Creekside in Courteney, which was really neat to see! You can definitely tell they're working on creating a great community there. I can't believe how big Devin is now - time is flying by!

Happy Dec everyone - I'd start a new thread, but I think I'd be more frustrated by the process than ever, so I'll leave that to someone else! xoxo

Yes Niki, how are all of you doing? How is everyone's health these days? we miss you around here! and where is that Kelsey???

erica, we went to buy a used bike from a family the other day that had a horse pasture butting right up against their backyard, so the horse was RIGHT there, reminding the family of it's needs at all times, which I thought was a pretty good system, as opposed to the horse off in a field somewhere away from the family. I would love to have horses for my kids, but since Mark will always have to work in cities, I doubt that will ever happen, unless we find that magical patch of land just outside the city... I'm loving the 4 minute commute here though! 10 by bike, 20 on foot... makes life pretty easy!! no room for a horse though! and I can understand you not wanting horses, with your allergies... the kids would really have to do the bulk of the horse tending, I'd think...

I don't know how to make a fancy new thread either, so I'll leave it to someone else as well! Plus I might say something about the fresh berry crops of december or something so southern hemisphere...

I know several people who "horse share", and some others who lease a horse. They seem to be happy with the arrangement, as it gives some degree of responsibility for the animal without having to have the land, etc.
