Hey everyone!

Just starting to do some research. Little history. First baby was c-section for failure to progress (induced at 38 weeks). 2nd c-section was elected because of fear and lack of knowledge.

May be prego again and looking for info on VBA2C and supportive medical people in our area of northern DFW. Looking at Denton, Frisco, Plano, etc.

THANKS!:

Dr. Cummings in Denton will do VBAC's. I was told he just recently delivered VBAC twins! I've heard great things about him, but I've also heard he's difficult to get in to see due to many, many patients.
I can't give specific names for midwives, but many that do homebirths in D/FW will VBAC. For a mw in a hospital setting, I don't know of any who do VBAC's.

I would call Dinah Waranch at Lover's Lane Birth Center. She is wonderful.

I have not had a cesarean, but I do have high-risk pregnancies and I understand that my ob does do VBACs. Her name is Audrey Graham and her office is at 3310 Live Oak Street in Dallas (tel. # (214) 823-6500). Dr. Graham will do everything possible for you to have a non-medicated birth, and I feel confident when she tells me that intervention is necessary, that it is really, truely needed. However, if you are looking for a doctor who is "touchy-feely" and into your emotions, she is not that way.

My top suggestions for a VBA2C would be Dr. Cummings up at Presby Denton and Dr. Payne at Baylor Downtown. I have worked with both of them (as a doula) with moms doing VBACs after more than 1 c-section.

As for midwives, here are the names of a few that specialize in VBACs:
Suroni Munoz
Cori Lively
Molly Germash
April Martin

There are plenty more but those are off the top of my head. As for doulas, well, I do know one (wink, wink) but there are really lots of us that love doing VBACs so that part is easy!

Lisa Black is a midwife in McKinney. Dr. Downey is also just down 75 at the border of Richardson and Plano.

*bump*

The point may be moot for me (HELLP at 30w, then pre-e at 37w) but I'm planning to look for a VBA2C-friendly practionioner in hopes that I make it to actually labor this time. Anyone to add or subtract from this list??

I'm currently 12w, but won't be moving to Dallas until ~30w. I'd like to contact someone soon to maybe try to establish a relationship before I move.

For midwives, I second noodlegirl's suggestions. For doulas, I would suggest Maria Pokluda or Delilah Ray.

Medical Center McKinney is not a VBAC hospital. Baylor Richardson used to be, but now that they are Methodist Richardson, I don't know. There is a new Baylor hospital under construction in McKinney, but that doesn't help much if you are currently expecting.

If you decide on a dr... Dr C is amazing. I was a vbac and after interviewing a lot of Dr's he was definitely the most knowledgeable receptive dr out there. He said his vbac success rate is over 85%.

If you go with a midwife I have two recommendations and two midwives I would not use.

Let me know if u want there info.

Thanks

Matty

I've heard rumors that Dr. Cummings is not accepting many new OB patients right now. Might be worth a call before you're totally sold on him.

I just moved from DFW and am currently pregnant with my fourth. I went to Dr. Martin Read in Fort Worth and absolutely loved him. He is very open to opinions and beliefs. And he takes several kinds of insurance. You should check him out.

True, but if you say you're a VBAC, want a consultation and know that he is indeed accepting new VBAC patients at his discretion, they'll will set up a consult. It's my understanding that he is trying to lighten his patient load; however, VBAC is dear to his heart and he knows what a hostile environment us VBAC mamas have and will take you if you're a good candidate.

Oh and I him!

My old MW mentioned that there are only 4 MWs doing VBA2Cs in the DFW area: Kim Watkins, Sorani Munoz, Molly Germash and one other that I cannot remember, but she's out of Grand Prairie.

Blessed helpmeet to my man, mama to Cody, Sarai & newly born Rebekah

Thank you for this info. I'm pregnant after a horrible twin pregnancy with TTTS and a c section at 29 weeks. I'd love to have a normal non medicated birth again. Does anyone know if Methodist Mansfield does vbac? Do I just call and ask?

I don't know about specific hospitals, but if you can't get into Dr. Cummings I have heard awesome things about Dr. Weinstein  - http://www.friscowomenshealth.com/dr-weinsteins-blog.html - if I still lived in the area I would definitely go check him out!  And yes, you can just call the L&D department at any hospital and ask if they do VBACs.  You can also check out rates at http://www.cesareanrates.com/texas-cesarean-rates/.

Hi,

I second Dr. Downey and Dr. Cummings as VBA2C providers.  My understanding is that they are the only two in DFW that will do it after 2 csections.  I do know another midwife that will do them besides the listed ones.  winky.gif

I think mine (family centered maternity care) do them. Their backup ob is supposed to be vbac friendly too... I love them. Will be with them for my second homebirth (4th birth) in february.
