My baby is 12 months old and I am looking for a sling for him. I made a ring sling and it worked well until he was 10 months old. Now he seems to "weigh it down" and I am afraid he is going to fall out. We were given one of those back pack carriers but neither myself nor my little guy has liked it much. Does anyone have any suggestions on other types of slings that are good for toddlers to either make or buy? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

If your sling is unpadded it should be able to pull more around him.

My kids all seemed to need to switch to a Mei Tai style carrier around 6 mos (they get very chunky very quickly and I need their weight evenly distributed) and they do fine.

You could also look into a wrap similar to a Moby wrap (easy to make!).

I've got my eyes on a Beco right now. I'm really hoping I can get dh to order me one. (Hey, if he can get an iPod Touch.....!!!)

Also check out the Babywearing Forum for more info & responses.

I use a Moby (my favorite, but it's a little time consuming to wrap, so I wear it only when I know I'll have the baby on for a while) and a mei tai (imo, the better option for lots of on and off during busy shopping/errand days), and I LOVE both of them!

Is there any where in Houston to buy a Mei Tai? Or does anyone know how to make one?

Yes, I bought a beautiful mei tai from AnnaCarrieBaby on Etsy for $30. Designer fabric, handmade, sturdy. I love it.

We are six: Me : Dh : Ds1('00) Dd('02) Ds2('05) Ds3('08) and, wow! Soon to be seven, Dd2 due 4/23.

I know a mom in the SouthEast houston area that makes beautiful mei tais. you can pm me for her information. you can see one of her creations here. Just scroll down to the entry labeled mei tai. I saw one she did with fabric from Ikea, really cool.

Thanks everyone for your help! I bought a mei tai today at Young and the Restless and both me and Gideon love it! It is so much more comfortable than a ring sling now that he is older!
