So I have a little bit of good news. . .
N has started sleeping better! It's not perfect, but it's a lot better. I haven't said anything for a few weeks because I didn't want to jinx anything, but I think its safe for me to say something now. I really attribute it to my attempts at nightweaning. So I say "attempts" because he still nurses at night, but I really cut down how often. The biggest problem is that if I'm in bed with him, he wants the boob in his mouth. He's not hungry, he just wants me.
So ya'll know I'm a night owl, which means that DH and DS go to bed much earlier than I do. The kid can be dead asleep but if I sneak into bed, he's instantly awake and wants to nurse. My solution? Um. . .I go sleep with E.
: Then at some point he wakes up from true hunger, so I then jump in bed with him to nurse and finish off the night. He still wants to nurse non-stop when I'm there but at least I can get a few hours of uninterrupted sleep in E's bed (and it's all good, she has a double bed so there's enough room). I also have taken to, uh, rolling over so my back it towards N if he starts stirring and he usually goes right back to sleep. But man, if I'm on my side facing him, it's like he's got radar that the boobies are right there. And not only does he want to constantly nurse, but now he's into the twiddling stage. If I don't stop him, it hurts like crazy and I can't sleep. And if I do stop him, I have to stay awake to make sure my hand doesn't slip.
But regardless of our convoluted system, at least he's now going several hours before his first waking, and that's awesome!
