Hi everyone! I'm new to this site and the Dallas area. I'm prego with my 2nd and I'm looking for a midwife in the Mid Cities area. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance! :)

Dafni,

I used the most wonderful midwife, Bonnie Kitchen. She is a mw who does homebirths. She is out of the Hurst/mid-cities area. I was told she was getting ready to retire but I don't know when. You might want to check her out. If you are looking for mw's who deliver at birthing centers, I have no idea who to recommend but I do think there is a birthing center in the midcities.

I have been seeing the midwifes at the Birth & Women's center in Dallas and I've been very pleased.

I also saw the midwives at the Birth and Womens Center.  I labored there but after complications ended up going to the hospital.  If it is too far or you were hoping for a homebirth maybe they would have some recommendations for you?

My midwife is Dinah at Lovers Lane Birth Center, she does births both at the center and at home. Cori Lively also often comes highly recommended and Donna ****** caught me when I was born! smile.gif

I used Kim Watkins for my last birth and loved her, she's out of Weatherford, though, so that may be too far from you. Also have been to Dinah for yearly stuff- she's great! In '05, my son was born at the Birth and Women's Center in Dallas, I really liked it during pregnancy but at the birth they were awful. I don't think we're allowed to leave neg reviews threads so I'll leave it at that.

Yeah, if you do consider Birth and Women's Center just make sure you talk to a lot of people first. Not saying you can't get the birth you want there, but yeah...just make sure you talk to others to figure out if what they actually do (not just say they do) is what you want.

Family Birth Services in Grand Prairie is so wonderful.  They do homebirths and freestanding birth center births.  Betty is the receptionist and will make you feel right at home.  I cannot recommend them enough!  Their apprentice program is one of the best in the country and they have midwives from all over come to train with them.  Their supportive style is so wonderful and loving.  I remember being pregnant, just knowing I was going to have to have another vbac.  I had no insurance and didnt' know what to do.  Helen Jolly spent well over an hour on the phone with me and I ended up having a beautiful vbac there.  My next baby was a home waterbirth.  I just cannot put into words how sweet those ladies are.  And I've had the opportunity to attend several homebirths with some of the midwives and the little things they do for mom and baby are where you will fall in love with them.

I would like to hear more about Birtha nd Women's Center....that's the one in Garland, right? That's where I am and it looks like my choices are either a UC at home or a birth center birth (I refuse to go to the hospital a 3rd time, I've learned my lesson and I will seriously have my baby in a field first, lol) because Medicaid doesn't cover home birth midwives here. Or, there aren't any here that meet Medicaid's requirements.

I called and talked briefly to them on the phone but if I end up stuck at a birth center I'm looking to go in at the last minute, push the baby out in the water, clean up, dry off, chill for a little bit, and go home. I'm not looking to stay overnight or be bothered. I want to eat, drink, listen to my CD's and do exactly what I want in peace, while I'm in labor. Does this sound in line with what they offer? It was really hard to get a feel for them over the phone. I can go visit of course but it kind of concerns me that what they *say* and what they *actually do* is different? I'd really like to hear more details if we're allowed to discuss them!
