We're new to Houston and TTC #4.  I'm hoping to have a homebirth for my next LO, but I think I may need to find an ob/gyn right now for 6dpo/7dpo bleeding :(  Hoping to find someone holistic/crunchy/etc.

Thanks :)

Julie

I never found anyone good :(  I ended up with a non-crunchy guy who was a complete misery - plus I knew way more than he did.  Happily, I'm very newly pregnant now - and am now moving on to finding a mw :)

I was searching for a "crunchy" obgyn myself...  I just found out that we're pregnant this week, but had been planning for a couple of months. During my search tonight, I stumbled on your post.  I hadn't known about this site previously.  =)

I joined so I could respond to you!  hehe

I found the following in my recent searching... Maybe you've seen it?  I'd really like to know what you have found or what you do wind up finding.

I think I'll go with Nanci Stanley for my Midwife...

I'll have a consult tomorrow.

I am still reading about the following and considering either possibility... This would be for other issues (adrenal and thyroid) during pregnancy - I don't want to take anything without supervision... It's crazy that I can tell you all of the drugs that I can and cannot take (3 previous pregnancies) - but I know NOTHING about which vitamins or supplements may pose a risk...  Anyway... Here's something for you to look at... And, please share anything you might have learned as well!

Congratulations!

I am thinking I'll go with Sakura - but insurance is always an issue with naturopaths... Hate that (that insurance companies make it an issue unnecessarily but more than willingly send you off and pay more for a hospital birth and traditional medicine... that's all i mean here).

Thanks for your post!

Thanks for your reply, Bryton! smile.gif

Since we expect to move to another state within a couple months, I tentatively am going with the Women's Specialists of Houston CNMs on a temporary prenatal-only basis.  http://www.womenspecialists.com/OurTeam/Midwives.aspx

When I was planning to birth in Houston, I was looking at Pat Jones as a midwife choice.  I've heard only great things about her.

I have no idea re the naturopath options, as we've only lived in Houston a short time.  There is a website http://thyroid.about.com/cs/doctors/a/topdocs.htm

that lists top thyroid docs and people's opinions about them.

Have you looked at the yahoo groups Natural Thyroid Hormones and NTH Adrenals?  You may be able to get local doc recommendations at one of those.

Congratulations to you smile.gif

Julie

No, I hadn't... HOWEVER, I really did recently discover that Naturaopaths cannot legally practice in the state of texas... You can have a degree but you can't run a practice or charge for any of your services as a Naturopath... many operate under another practice that IS recognized by the state of Texas and throw in the Naturopathic info with their base of knowledge... From what I can tell, anyway.

I was able to find a pretty amazing midwife...  (Chris Duffy) Who also happens to have her naturopathic degree - which comes with an abundance of information that she is more than willing to share with me... Free of charge, of course. ;)

She's going to help me along with my thyroid and adrenal issues during pregnancy.

I appreciate your help and your time! Thanks for the links... I'll check out the yahoo groups.

I saw that women's specialist group myself... And, I wondered what it might be like there.

How do you like it?

I used an OB affiliated with Women's Specialist but know at least 6 families in my area (Heights) who had great unmedicated births with the midwives there.  The do "standard" testing though.
