I'm having no luck finding a midwife in Lubbock. I was wondering if anyone has an OB to recommend. I have Blue Cross and originally wanted a home birth. I see that Midland has a birth center with midwives that take Blue Cross, but I'd rather not drive 2 hours. Thank you!!

Christine Stuart is a CNM in Lubbock.  If you go the hospital route instead, I'd try Kit Linton or Cassanova at UMC.  Linton is family practice... a lot of people really like her.  UMC also offers free doula services and doesn't take the baby out of the mom's room at all.

Hi Bonni, I too am searching for options for natural childbirth.  There is nothing really available in Lubbock, TX.  Christine Stuart is unable to accept new patients in the Lubbock area due to poor heath.  However there is a midwife in Amarillo, Sandra Elkins; and two different midwifes in Midland, Dawn Cockrell, and Kelli Beaty.  All of which are willing to come to Lubbock for home birth.  Or in Kelli's case you could deliver at a birthing center in Midland run by Kelli Beaty.  Good luck!

I didn't know that about Christine.  When I looked for someone with my last baby, Dawn Cockrell wouldn't travel to Lubbock.  Has she changed her stance on that?

I agree that Dr Linton or Dr Casanova are great resources for a hospital natural birth . I would also add Dr Tracy Suit - she delivered my son in 2011 and told me she was "half dirty hippie, half establishment whore," which I thought was hilarious and awesome. She also told me I could have incense or a drum circle if I wanted lol! UMC offers free doula services to all their expectant mama's, as well as great childbirth and breastfeeding classes. feel free to PM me if I can be of help.

Yes, Dawn will travel to Lubbock as long as her schedule is not already full around your EDD. Please call her office at 432-563-3297 to inquire or go to www.WestTexasMidwife.com.

Dr. Tracy Suit is amazing.  I have had two completely natural births.  She was my OB for the 2nd one and it was great.  Her nursing staff is wonderful and she is very supportive of YOUR choices.  She's in the Covenant Women's center.

Hi Bonnie,

Its been a couple years on this post and I was wondering if you found someone who does natural births? Any tips or advice you can give would be helpful.
