I am relatively new to the Houston area.  I just contacted my insurance and got a list of the following CNMs that are covered by my plan.  Can anyone here make a recommendation?  Unfortunately, none of these seem to be at birth centers.  I live in Clear Lake (SE Houston).  It seems many of these are associated with Ben Taub, UTMB Galveston, or East Houston Medical Center.  If you have any thoughts on those facilities, I'd like to hear about that too.  Thanks.

I'm just going to post my findings as I go along in case it helps someone else.  I contacted Bernadette Olivier and she is actually at a brith center.  http://www.pearlandbirthcenter.com/  However, she will not take me because I have had a c-section.  My first baby was a c-section, second baby was a VBAC.  Even though I have had one successful VBAC she will not take me.

Does anyone know if there is a hospital in the Houston area that does NOT require continuous fetal monitoring for a VBAC?

Mercy Otunla would be Titi Otunla from the Women's Specialists of Houston. Mary Hirshi is with them too. They deliver at Texas Children's. I know Dr. Espana and Dr. Dryden in that practice are great choices for VBAC though the continuous monitoring might still be something they like. I suppose you could always refuse to have it. Ngoncu Rigby is probably Debbie Rigby. I wonder why her name is all messed up? She used to be with that practice but moved over to Ben Taub recently. She's the one who caught my first baby when she was still with that group. I hear good things about Dr. Ivey about VBAC. Anyway, those midwives at Texas Children's can't attend VBACs. I don't know about Ben Taub midwives.

I do not know of any CNMs that will do VBACs in the Houston area (that do birth center or hospital deliveries since that was all I looked for).

I am using Dr Longerot at TCH Women's Pavilion. She is cool with intermittent monitoring until "the end" with twins. That is a huge deal so she might take you on too! I also agree about Dr Dryden (you will need a referral to get in her practice from a former patient) . Also check out Dr Zepada (if you are ok with a man) - I have heard fabulous things about him.
Good luck!!!

Mercy Otunla (Titi Otunla) is a part of the CNM midwifery team at The Women's Specialists of Houston that assisted me to deliver my first LO in 2010.

I delivered at Texas Children's Hospital.  The nurses there took great care of me after the delivery and even helped me to breastfeed.

Please call them to and ask them questions.  They're really a nice and very nurturing group of midwives.
