Pregnant with my 6th. I am currently seeing an MFM that has privileges at this hospital. I had a home birth last birth, and was planning for one this time. Unfortunately I risked out when I went in for DVT at 12 weeks. (I have a clot from my groin to knee) I am insanely devastated over this and am somewhat dreading this birth. I birthed 3 of my other kids at MH in Mem City. While I liked it, they did give me *some* issues that bugged me. So I have some questions about this one, on how they are.
I know they give you an hour after birth to do skin to skin. Do they have a policy of taking babies for X amount of hours to the nursery for their monitoring? At MHMC, they took my daughter for 4 hours (policy) and it was actually 6 hours as her heart rate was a couple bpm over what they want to see. I argued that it would regulate if they would let me do skin to skin. They insisted she needed to be monitored.
How good are they about natural birthing, moving around in the room, birthing positions? I REALLY want to get as close to home/natural birth as I can. My Dr is all for it and will allow me to do whatever, with the occasional in bed monitoring and wearing of leg compressors (due to DVT and being off heparin for a bit)
How about constant in and out of the staff? With my 4th, at MHMC, they left me alone for the most part when they saw I had no issues BFing and all.
Also, what about refusing Hep B, eye ointment, all that? Did they fuss? MHMC only fussed about eye ointment and Vit K. I was fine with Vit K, I wiped off the ointment asap but would like to refuse that. (along with the others, but I wont fight vit K). Delayed cord clamping (or is that a Dr thing?)
I will be discussing these with the Dr as well, but I wanted to hear some first hand experiences. Thanks so much!!
