I'm watching this video right now, on KHOU online. This is a more detailed forecast than I've seen-- going by county and city.

Welcome to the Real World she said to me, condescendingly, take a seat. Take your life; plot it out in black and white.

We're in San Antonio and not likely to get much more than wind & rain, but dh felt the need to prepare a little bit. We expect to lose power. Seems to happen every time there's a sprinkle, which is weird. We bought charcoal in case we need to cook meat. We figured we'd grill. We also bought cereal for the kids (electric stove).

speaking of stoves... we have a gas range, and gas hot water. I haven't seen anything saying to turn the gas off, so I am guessing it is fine to leave it on. We'll be able to cook even if the power goes out and not have to use sterno. woo!

I wonder if the carby-sweets are how we deal with stress--well, I know I do, not sure about everyone else. But I'm baking chocolate chip cookies right now (no gluten for us, so I can't just buy Oreos... though they really sound good).

Yeah- gas almost always stays on. If we lose power we'll hang out at my parents' house- they have gas AND a generator

I didn't buy any junk food because we're not eating much of anything right now (Ramadan). I did make Almond Biscotti and Sesame Anise cookies : mmmm...we don't have to suffer now do we?

My confession: I am having a hard time eating in general (pregnancy related)...so i'm less likely to be cravy. Though I did consider using this an excuse to buy cheetohs.....

Hmmm...bread- Lets just say I have a new appreciation for homemade bread. I don't have a cool machine but when I tried making it a couple weeks ago it wasn't pretty.

KHOU has a weather call you can sign up for. You enter in your address and it calls you if there is a weather emergency in your immediate area, like a tornado. That could come in very handy with the hurricane hitting at night and possible tornados related to it. It costs $6.95 for a year subscription.

So are you guys nervous or what? I wish it were tomorrow already. All this waiting and preparing is freaking me out. Too draaaaaaawn out.

Things left to do:
Bring in some things from the backyard
Clear out the "panic room".
Pack an emergency bag. (Good idea, Alegna!)
Repark the cars somewhere NOT under the old oak trees.

Yeah, the way we have prepared today, it seems the storm should be hitting tonight. I am ready for the most part. I need to put our important documents in a ziplock bag in the travel safe and also pack an emergency bag to be on the safe side. Oh, and clean out the mess under our stairs in the closet in case we need to "hunker down" there.

Ah bread machines are lovely. I rarely have time to do it by hand, but it's nothing to toss it in the machine.

I'm nervous. I am holding out hope it turns hard tonight. And I'm thrilled they're now saying cat 2 instead of 3. But I'm seriously nervous.

Gonna get stuff in tomorrow. If the gods smile we can get the limb that's ON our roof off...

Need to prep our hunker-down area. If we're getting it full-force we'll spend tomorrow night down there on the floor. Fun.

Sending full force turning vibes to Ike tonight.

Angela, Daniel has been dying for a bread machine as long as I have known him, but we have never bought one for some strange reason. I think that I will have to for her b-day at the end of the month. Nothing says 40 like a machine that makes bread. :

I took some pictures at the grocery store earlier. I also drove by a few gas stations on my way to drop water off at a friend's. Three of the stations I drove by were out of gas. There were long lines at 3 others. Thankfully, I've got 3/4 of a tank.

My dad took my DH Christmas shopping the first year of our marriage and that was one of the rules my dad told my DH. Never, ever buy your wife an appliance or present for the house. It MUST be something for her and her alone. After being married to my mom for so long, I guess my dad has learned a lesson or two. :

Great pics at the store! I kinda wish it was going to pass over us during the day so I could take pictures of the storm...but I do have the video camera charging *in case* things get interesting.

if you have an ice chest, it isn't that much a concern. like when you go camping, you often take eggs and lunch meat. they need refrigeration but it's easy to accomplish with a cooler.
