The thing to keep in mind with the midwives at the Capitol Hill Campus is that you will end up having whichever one is on-call at the time you go in to deliver your baby.

That being said, I ended up transfering to the Capitol Hill Campus after a failed homebirth, and the midwives there were incredibly kind and compassionate towards me and my family.

I really respect Suzanne Thompson.

I also like Michelle Sarju, but I am not sure she is currently practicing, she accepted a position with a birth organization, but worth a check in!

Suzy Myers is no longer catching babies, but Marge Mansfield is with Heather Chorley, both at Seattle Home Maternity.

Lisa and Robin as well as Mary, part of the GH midwives group are very sweet too! Like a pp said, the GH mws share call!

Best,
Sharon

Thanks for all the responses. I'd love any specific info on what they're like.

I hope this list is up to date. I pulled it off their providers directory yesterday but if Myers isn't catching any more, it makes me wonder.

Thanks again.

I recommend Suzanne Thompson for the most respectful, empowering care I've seen in Seattle.

I had my 1st with Morgan Martin at the birth center and 2nd with Felice Barnow at home. They're great, both are pretty mellow. They inform you of your options, i.e., screening tests and let you make your own choices. I thought they were pretty hands off. PM me if you want more info.

I Michelle Sarju. She delivered both of my babies. I too was under the impression she was on hiatus but definitely call to find out. She's great!

ETA: I came back to edit my response b/c Michelle didn't actually deliver DS1. I also transferred to GH Cap. Hill. I always think of Michelle as delivering him b/c she stayed through his birth. Lynda Driskell actually delivered him and with the exception of one small issue my experience was great there. But like the pp said, its really whoever is the midwife on-call at GH.

I transferred here as well when home birth was no longer an option due to high blood pressure. My midwife delivers here though, she's one of two midwives that have their own practices that are able to deliver there. Her name is Sally Avenson. She's pretty good at what she does. She took pretty good care of me. The hospital was also a very nice place, although the maternity entrance is hard to find (in an alley!). I still wish I could have given birth at home though.

Rachel lady.gif, in love with my baby girl Abigailenergy.gifborn 9/17/08!

I've heard great things about Suzanne Thompson. One of the mamas at our co-op preschool used her for a home birth vbac.

I haven't birthed with any of these midwives, but I have doula'd with Suzanne Thomson and I highly recommend her. She's an amazing woman and a fantastic midwife.

Suzanne Thompson is amazing! I can not say enough good things about her. She has so much trust in birth and in women. She made me feel so empowered and so capable and my experience with her could not have been better. I highly recommend her!

I contacted Suzanne. She's on vacation until end of December so I'll see if I can get an appt then.

I called the # I have for Michelle Sarju and left a message but no one ever called me back. Maybe she's no longer practicing...

Any experience with the GH Birth Center midwives for prenatal care?

Michelle Sarju and Tracy Cooper delivered my first.
I LOVED them. Wish I had had them in Bellingham for my second!
Good luck!
Make a few phone calls and do some interviewing, you will find someone that is a great fit for you!
