Dh and I will be in Oregon for 4 days, leaving in about 10 days. Seems like rain is a good possibility, but with warm temps in the mid-70's. Should we bring any type of lightweight, waterproof jacket, or will we look like dorks if we do? Umbrella? Is June rain in Corvallis or Portland typically heavy, just drizzly, or both/varies? Just want to make sure we are prepared and don't have to waste time on our very short vacation shopping?

TIA!

During this season we have mostly drizzly rain. We will have downpours for about 5 or so minutes. Light rain gear might be useful if you already own it. Umbrellas really are not needed in my opinion but you do see people carrying them even for light showers sometimes.
It also really matters what you plan to do while here. If you are going hiking, take rain gear. If you are going to be in the cities the whole time. I say skip the rain gear and umbrella and just go into a store to wait out the 5 minute downpour if you get in one.

I see an umbrella and I wonder where the person is from. hehe. Not from Oregon that is for sure! Personally, I just get wet. I might wear a sweatshirt if it is cold enough but if it is warm.. I will just get wet. Your not going to melt.

I wear a lot of zip up sweaters, with something cooler underneath

You wear layers, but never an umbrella. It doesn't rain that hard, usually.

I grew up here.. and I don't even own an umbrella.

What area (general) are you going to? I live in the Willamette Valley and it's not really the time of year for rain.. it's been that way recently but I don't think it will be much longer.

We'll probably be spending the most time in Corvallis, since we are looking into moving there, some time in Eugene, maybe half a day in Portland, and a day at the coast, probably in Newport.

Okay, you're going to be in my area.. I don't think a raincoat is necessary, really, maybe a light jacket with hood. But if you're going to Newport, bring a windbreaker! It is almost always cold and windy, even more so on the beach, even during the middle of the summer.

Thanks! I was thinking a hooded windbreaker would be enough.

Love this!

I've been checking the weather report, and it looks like we'll be getting mostly sun and perfect temps.

One thing you should know about Oregon weather forecasts... they are always wrong. Always.

If the forecast is for rain, it will be sunny.

What I'm wearing every day: jeans or capris, T-shirt, thongs (footwear!), and a zippered hoodie if I need it. No umbrella. But if you have the kind of hair that is "styled" you might like one.

ETA: I'm in Covallis. It's lovely. Be sure to hit the farmers' market. Saturday by the fountain, Wednesday 3pm down by the skatepark.

Also.... It will be cold and windy on the coast. May even need a hat. Consider yourself warned. This is not LA.

I still have not figured out Oregon's obsession with the flip flop. I hate those things,

Eugene here...it POURED from about 3am - 8amish...i was surprised! But it's definitely not cold. Inside i'm wearing typical spring/summer things - sun dresses, no shoes, lol. If i go out i'll put on a hoodie or cardigan or something.

It's not really umbrella season, but personally i do use one here when it is...i wear glasses and HATE getting raindrops all over them every time i leave the house/car...ugh!

And yeah - the weather is typically wrong for oregon. But judging by last nights weather, i'd at least pack a sweater.

So we had our short but wonderful vacation about 10 days ago. The weather was perfect. We had some rain driving through the forest on the way to the coast, but Cape Lookout was sunny and short-sleeve warm. We did use windbreakers when we made a brief stop at an ocean-front park in Depoe Bay--very chilly and windy there, and the jackets were perfect. I wore a sweater or hoodie in the morning/evening in Corvallis, but mostly skirts, rolled up jeans, and short-sleeved shirts and my beloved Tevas.

Thanks for the advice--worked out perfectly!
