A friend is moving back to Portland and needs to live in SW to be closer to work in Tualatin. However he'd rather live in SE because of the funky neighborhood feel and walking proximity to bars, restaurants, shops and parks. So does anyone have suggestions about areas in SW Portland that might be like that?

Thanks,
-- ML

Multnomah Village

Orenco Station is a planned community with some of these features - but it's closer to Hillsboro than Tualatin

You're the third person to recommend Multnomah Village so I'll definitely pass that along. Thanks for the Orenco Station idea too. Are there no other neighborhoods with businesses in SW Portland?

We needed to stay in SW for dh's job and we actually really love it here. We live in Maplewood, which is on the other side of Gabriel Park from MV. Gabriel Park is over 90 acres and has lots of paths for walking, soccer fields, great off-leash dog park, tennis, and a skate park. Hillsdale is a great area too. I go there for Yoga and for the local co-op. The other nice thing is, we are just 10 or so minutes from downtown. If you can live on one of the better bus lines, you can get down there rather easily and catch the max or whatever.

hope that helps!

Hillsdale and Multonomah Village! It's been our home for the past 8 years and we love it!

When we were driving around looking at neighborhoods my friend really liked Maplewood. But due to needing to get something right away, he ended up in Oak Creek. Not very SE Portland, but the house situation is good.
