Our baby is due in a couple months and I'm starting to interview pediatricians. I would love any feedback on MD's that are supportive of alternative therapies, less-aggressive use of antibiotics & low/no vaccines. Also, any information on GREAT pediatric Naturopaths would be helpful as well. I think we are likely to utilize both as we lean more towards holistic medicine, but want the security of a conventional back-up doctor should something serious arise.
Thank you!!!

As far as conventional doctors go I like Dr. Eustis at OMG. My girls have been seeing him for 6 years and he has never said anything to me about them not being vaccinated. We came from California when they were 2 and 5 years so he didn't see them as babies but I like how he is very considerate to whatever I would be comfortable with. Like he didn't push the blood test my daughter refused to get. With a limited budget we've been restricted to seeing only doctors who take the oregon health plan so we lucked out. He would be a good one for you to interview.

Dr. Leita Dzubay at River Bend Pavilion. Awesome. (She shares with Dr Bradshaw, who is also awesome) Super-pro breastfeeding, pro-co sleeping, I explained to her my reasons for non-vax, and she never has pressured me, or even asked again. She said she agreed with my premise, but if I ever decided to selectively vaccinate, she would give me whatever info I wanted/needed. I highly recommend her. Also, the exam room waits have always been very short, the nurses are awesome, and the exam rooms have cool car/truck exam tables which are fun for kiddo.

I do agree that Dr. Eustis is a sweetheart, but last well check with my 3 yo he was pushing the chix pox vax(of all of them, for real?), AND getting my 3yo cholesterol checked b/c my mom's dad had a heart attack at 45. Talked about medicatios for high cholestorol?!

sorry, nak more later.

We take baby boy to Dr. Deborah Fuerth, Peacehealth Medical Group on Hilyard in south Eugene. I like her, I loooove her nurse (fastest sticker I've ever seen), and the lead-time for well-baby appointments is very reasonable, like 2 weeks or less (I'm not so organized these days, so having to make appointments 2 months in advance is impossible). I've never had to call in an emergency, but she gave me all sorts of phone numbers and places to go if babe ran a fever (or whatever) outside of office hours. Dr. Fuerth was supportive of my home birth, very pro-breastfeeding, understands the needs of a family where mom works outside of the home/dad is primary caregiver, and is open to discussing delayed/no vaccines (we vax on a modified schedule, and I have friends who see her and they don't vax).

A family doc I can highly recommend is Dr. Jane Neary, with McKenzie Family Practice. I love love love her style, very supportive of my home birth choices and of my hormonal changes (not PPD, but I was pretty stressed ).

Another ped that comes highly recommended is Dr. Robert Velarde, he's an independent practitioner. Someone else I haven't checked out but I'm intrigued is an ND/MD whose name suddenly escapes me. When I remember/find it, I'll update my post. I like the idea, I understand that he doesn't have admitting privileges to the local hospitals, but not sure that I care about that anyway.

Good luck with your search, I'm sure you'll find someone who matches your family's "style"!

I know this thread is older but I came across it doing a search for pediatricians in Eugene and thought I would let you all know that Dr. Eustis is 100% PRO vaccine. He told me himself this am when we went to him for the first time. He then proceed to lecture me about not vaccinating and made me feel pretty uncomfortable. I was not (mentally) prepared to defend myself and my choice when I went in because of earlier comments in this thread about him being delayed/no vacs friendly.

mama to the most awesome 3! year old ever!

I have also heard excellent things about Dr Bradshaw and Dr Velarde. We see Dr Karen Weiner with Oregon Medical Group. She is friendly and sweet with the kids. No pressure about vaccinations and she is pro co-sleeping. Unfortunately, I do not like the Dr she shares the office with. He freaked when he found out DS had not been vaccinated, when we needed a short notice appointment.

We just moved here and I recently posted about finding a family doctor.  No one responded, so I just went with my gut and ended up seeing Meg Hamilton, who is not a pediatrician (not sure if you need one of those).  She is a FNP at South Hilyard Clinic.  I loved  her!  And so did my son.  She was great, very open minded and not pushy at all.  I plan  on her being who the whole family sees.  Also, the nurses were great and the wait wasn't long (I hate dr. offices with long waits-to me that means they don't respect my time).

Good luck!
