I met up with a wonderful ND/LM today (Dr Terra Sowinski) and was super stoked about hiring her as a Women's Care Provider and future Midwife. Unfortunately I later found out after confirming coverage with our new insurance provider that they only cover home births with a CNM and do not recognize Naturopaths as doctors.

I have a 17 month old, and went with a clinic out of Tacoma. My experience with them has completely turned me away from wanting to birth in a hospital or with a "midwife" collective again. After laboring without the CNM on call's presence for much of the time, and having the nurse yelling at me, I ended up on my back, with a doctor pulling him out with forceps! Not happening again.

Are there any CNM in South Kitsap, Gig Harbor, or East Mason county that treats women's health and specifically pregnancy as a NATURAL blessing and not a medical condition? Preferably one who supports home birth? I'd rather have one care provider, and not have to have multiple.

Sometimes paying out if pocket to have the birth you want
Is worth every penny. We only birth a few times in our lives,
Invest In the care you deserve. Don't let insurance companies
Dictate how and with whom you birth.

We've since decided to switch insurance companies instead. Also, another lasting effect of my son's birth is now my husband wants to birth at a hospital in case we have another emergency... if we'd been with a competent care provider in the first place, I'm positive the event would not have turned into an emergency.

Thank you for those who responded here and by PM.
