I am 6 weeks pregnant with baby #1 and I really want to have a homebirth.  My husband and I went to check out Sacred Waters in Eugene (a birthing Center and they also do homebirth) and we were really impressed with the midwife and her philosophy.  The problem is she is a CPM and my insurance won't cover CPM which means we need to come up with $4000.

My insurance does cover CNM but I don't think that CNMs do homebirths? Anyone know?

Any help on what my options are here is appreciated!

I've always wanted a homebirth so I think I'd rather struggle to come up with the money than have to birth in a hospital or birthing center, then again if I gave up on homebirth, we would have more money for when baby is here, so I don't know, I'm torn.

I think the only CNMs in town are at the PeaceHealth birth center. Look into some of the other private CPMs in town. I think they're cheaper than $4000 and will often do discounts if you pay in full by week 30. Depending on your insurance, an out-of-pocket home birth might be cheaper than deductibles and co-pays.

Sorry I'm not more help--I'm 9 weeks and hoping for a 2nd vbac through the PeaceHealth birth center.

Thanks! Do you know where to look for other CPMs that might be cheaper?

I guess I can call my insurance and ask if they have any homebirth options that will be covered. The other option is to possibly get part of it covered by OHP because they do cover CPM this year but won't know for sure till Jan when plans change.

Congrats on yours!
