I'm delighted that this group is becoming active again...I've missed all of you, as I'm not on Facebook.
This is Luthien at 16 months, exploring our driveway. She likes to sort and stack things, including gravel, which she takes inside by the handful. She also tries to get it transported in her bike trailer. She runs everywhere and her favorite activities all occur outdoors. Now that she's comfortable with walking, she dawdles all the time, exploring here, investigating there. She says words occasionally, mostly starting with "B," her favorite letter: "book" (which she pronounces "bek"; being read to is her second favorite activity, which doesn't surprise us, because we're both compulsive readers), "bump," "Bun" (short for Bunny Butt, the nickname for our Manx cat, Celeborn), "bye-bye," and "Boo!"
We're also doing a gentle, lengthy introduction to toileting with her. She started showing an interest in bathroom functions around 13 months, and she also runs off in the midst of diaper changes, so we introduced her to a child-sized potty. She wanted none of that, insisting on being lifted onto the adult toilet, where she stands, holding onto the lid, and squats to do her thing. She is most cooperative when she first wakes up, after nursing. Sometimes she's even dry at the time. Once she's puttering around and investigating her world during the day, she's not interested in being diverted from her activities to use the toilet. She does like to toss toilet paper squares into the bowl, and she loves to flush.
She'll be 17 months on the 30th of this month and is full of irrepressible delight! She's true to her name and has a powerful voice, the loudest happy voice of any baby we've heard. Sometimes she hurts my ears when she yells directly into them, but her exuberance is contagious and we love every moment with her.
