I don't think the pertussis vaccine is important enough for an older healthy child with mild asthma to overcome your general preference not to vaccinate.  Same for tetanus

Hello Dr Sears,

We have an unvaccinated almost 6 year old daughter. She always seemed to be prone to respiratory infection - croup as an infant, colds and sinus infections that became upper respiratory infections and when she was almost 4 she had pneumonia - so this past spring we brought her to a specialist and, after a baseline breathing test and a follow up test a few weeks later when she had a bit of a cold, it was determined that she has Mild Intermittent Asthma triggered by viruses. The doctor recommended Proventil when need be. She started Kindergarten this past September and has yet to miss a single day due to illness (her two years at preschool it seemed she was missing days every 2-3 weeks). At any sign of a cold or cough or tightness in her voice we give her a couple puffs of Proventil and it usually passes without consequence. We also give her a homeopathic nasal spray. My husband and I have had an ongoing debate about vaccines. I am opposed in general. He is opposed to the number and schedule but not to all vaccines. He would like to vaccinate our daughter for Pertussis and Tetanus. I think if she already has chronic inflammation, which I understand is what asthma basically is, that to introduce the vaccines could exacerbate underlying inflammation and conditions. He believes it would protect her as she is susceptible due to the asthma.  As for the Tetanus, I believe what I have read in your various responses here on this forum is that you don't believe it to be a threat. Given the limited information I provided, could you please give us your recommendation? FYI She eats a very well balanced, meatless diet, was breastfed until 2 1/2 yrs. and we live in a highly populated, international city.

Thank you in advance for your time. I/We truly appreciate it!
