Does it help to know that my dd has and still sometimes does the SAME thing! I was truly worried. But she had no fever, she didn't do it all the time (though in my case, I couldn't figure out what made her not cry), so it was not a UTI and I refused to be worried into thinking so. UTIs hurt when you're peeing, true, but they also hurt when you're not. No. It wasn't a UTI in our case. Nevertheless, she still cried right before and during. Stopped right after. It was as if she never wanted to pee in her diaper if she didn't have to. She was EC'd from birth. I think she wanted to hold it, but her little muscles just weren't able.
I just communicated with her about it and cued her while she was in her diaper and told her that it's more comfortable to go in the toilet/sink, but the diaper is made for catching pee, too. She is 12 weeks old now and rarely cries during it anymore. In fact, it's getting hard to tell when she has to go bc she doesn't get fretful about it!

It's starts out like that, but often escalates into a full blown crying attack
The thing that gets me, is she cries while she pees. Its almost as if it hurts. Maybe I'll look in UTI though I don't see why or how she would have one, since I've kept her VERY clean. I don't want to pay the pediatrician unless I have to, kwim? I'm thinking about going to the natural pharmacy and finding some homeopathic UTI stuff that works for infants, just in case. A homeopathic can't hurt her anyway..... I just don't know

|rubelin||a squealy- screaming kinda of cry was a main pee signal for both of my boys up to about 3 mo old. Is that the sort of thing she's doing?? It is very likely that she has stopped cueing you when you put her in a cover; she understands that, at those times, you expect her to just go in the diaper. Babies are very smart and all those who are full-time diapered from birth quickly learn that they are expected to go in their diapers so it makes perfect sense that she has figured that out, too.|

I wonder the same thing. I've sort of ruled out UTI since she doesn't do it when she has a cover on. I feel like it's crazy but I think she "knows" when she doesn't have a cover on and doesn't want to pee on my or something. Maybe she senses the heightened perception on my part. I've stopped holding her in position and she still does it, even on my lap over a prefold. She never goes until I do the pssss either.... maybe you're right and I'll try psss-ing earlier.
I just don't want her to have bad associations with peeing or anything! I'm really into doing EC, but DD seems to be so much happier peeing in her diaper, maybe I should take a break from it? She's only 1 month old but I heard the earlier you start, the better. She definitely seems to be getting it, I just hate to see her cry!!

|eirual||I'd definitely look into the UTI, but also, could she be holding out for your 'pssss'?? Could she really be holding it in 'til it hurts because she's waiting for that okay to go?? Try being diligent about taking her and offering her the chance BEFORE she gets the strong need.|

O.k, so dd (one month old now) is still screaming bloody murder when she pees. I'll be holding her over the pot and she'll be totally mellow and happy and then all of a sudden she starts fussing and before you know it she's full fledged screaming. That's when I go "psssss" to help her pee and she goes every time! It doesn't feel right to have her screaming like that, but I know she knows what the pssss means.
Today I tried an experiment and just left her in a diaper w/ no cover and waited. She still screamed when she peed! The thing is, I don't think she does it when a diaper cover is on! This is such a mystery!!
Tommorow, since it's supposed to be hot, I'm going to leave her out of a diaper all day and see if I can get to the bottom of this....
